Justin “Hakeem” Walker blessed his parents with the gift of his life on September 16, 1990 in Gaston County, North Carolina and departed this life on Monday, October 24, 2016 in Wilmington, North Carolina.  He was the son of Wayne Steven Burris and Hattie Lee Walker. 

“Keem”, as he was adoringly called, had a great personality and love to interact with his family and friends.  He was active in sports at Southwest Junior High School and later attended Forestview High School both in Gastonia, North Carolina.  He graduated from Gaston College, Dallas, North Carolina on May 13, 2009.   Hakeem followed the footsteps of his uncle, Master Gunnery Sergeant Lamar Burris and enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 2009.  He was deployed to Afghanistan as an infantryman and later returned to Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina.  Hakeem left the military and reenlisted as a Sergeant Reservist in the 4th Tank Battalion and a member of the 3rd Platoon.
Hakeem belongs to a close knit loving family and leaves to cherish precious memories his parents, Hattie Lee Walker and Wayne Steven Burris of Gastonia, N.C.; stepfather, David Camp of Shelby, N.C.; paternal grandfather, Oscar Burris of Gastonia, N.C.; six siblings, Tyrone Walker and Dantrell Walker of Gastonia, N.C., Steven Rhodes of Winston-Salem, N.C., Shemekia Dameron, Chesley Meeks and Jamya Camp all of Gastonia, N.C.; seven nieces, eight nephews, four aunts, seven uncles; a host of other relatives and friends.

Thursday, November 3, 2016 @ 1:30 P.M.

The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday for thirty minutes prior to funeral.
(1:00 until 1:30 p.m.)
