Dorothy May Saunders was born May 5, 1926 in Fort Pierce, Florida to the late Ernest J. Latimer, Sr. and the late Deansy L. Latimer.

“Dot”, as she was affectionately known, attended the local schools of St. Lucie County and graduated from Lincoln Park Academy.  She furthered her education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Upon returning to her hometown, she worked for 30 years at Lincoln Park Academy and Fort Pierce Central High School as an English and drama teacher. 

She was a lifelong member of St. Paul AME Church of Fort Pierce, Florida.  She relocated to Ocala, Florida where she became a member of St. Paul AME Church of Ocala. 

She wmember of the Eta Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. where she worked diligently on various activities in the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest J. and Deansy L. Latimer; husbands, Sgt. Willie B. Ellis and Ernest Gordon; son, Reggan B. Ellis; sisters, Gerolyn L. Bynoe and Albertha Williams; and brother, Ernest J. Latimer, Jr.

Left to cherish her many fond memories are:  her husband, Tom Saunders of Ocala, FL; loving and dedicated son, Maxy B. Ellis of Fort Pierce, FL; brother, David (Willie Mae) Latimer of Orlando, FL; stepdaughters, Deborah Saunders of New Jersey and Saundra (Joe) Edwards and their children Blake Edwards and Cole Edwards; “granddaughters”, Hatticia Dover of Fort Pierce, FL and Hannah Benjamin of Ocala, FL; and a host of sorrowing nephews, nieces, family, and friends who will miss her dearly.

A visitation will be held 3PM to PM on November 30, 2016 at St. Paul A. M.E. Church. A funeral service will be held 12noon, December 1, 2016 at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 1405 North 27th Street, Ft. Pierce, FL 34947.  Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Ft. Pierce.
