YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mr. Lawrence Edward Whited will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Lawrence Edward Whited was called home by the heavenly angels whispering “Lawrence come home and rest. No more suffering. Eternal peace is awaiting you.”
He received his wings Dec. 1, 2016, surrounded by his family.
Lawrence, affectionately known as “Larry,” was born June 28, 1938, in Youngstown, a son of Equia (Bud) and Myrtle Whited.
He attended East High School where he lettered in football. He graduated in 1957. He faithfully served in the U.S. Army receiving his honorable discharge in 1967. He worked at Republic Steel as a crane operator retiring in 1985. After retiring he worked several jobs including Special Busing, Jewish Community Center, Antonine Sisters, Simon Roofing, Easter Seals, and also as a security guard at several locations but, very known at K&P beauty store in McGuffey plaza.
In his spare time he raised and trained German Shepards and coached for the Pearl Street Mission for many years. He also enjoyed working on cars and was a former owner of two local gas stations. Lawrence was an avid Cleveland Browns fan and active member of the American Legion Post 504.
Lawrence loved to tell stories about what he did and how he did it.
Lawrence married Joan Poindexter Whited and with this union three children were born Don, Lamont and Wendy.
He leaves to cherish his memory, four sons, Lawrence E. Houser of Youngstown, Troy (Naomi) Houser of Campbell, Ohio, Don Whited of Columbus and Lawrence Lamont Whited; and his one and only daughter, who was also his caretaker, Wendy (Eric) McQueen of Youngstown.
He also leaves three brothers, Harvey (Jill) Robbins of Atlanta, Ronald (Marlene) Robbins of Campbell and Timothy James of Youngstown; one sister, Selena James of Youngstown; 17 grandchildren;  five great grandchildren; his dog/roommate and best friend, Rocky also known, as Boo-Boo or Poochie; and a host of other family and dear friends. 
He was preceded in death by both parents; two brothers, William “Muchie” Clark and Paul Robbins; a sister, Elise Tarpley; granddaughter Cheryl Houser; and his longtime companion, Lillie Langford. 
Friends may call Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Washington Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
