Reverend. Dr. John Augustus Lockhart, of 403 Martin Luther King Drive, Louisville, Georgia departed this life December 6, 2016 at the Jefferson County Hospital, Louisville, Georgia.

 Rev. Dr. Augustus Lockhart was a native of Jefferson County. He was born the fifth child of eight siblings born to the parentage of the late John H. Lockhart, Jr., and Annie Mae Jordan Lockhart. Rev. Lockhart accepted Christ August 15, 1951 and joined the Eden Baptist Chur, Louisville, Georgia. He later moved his membership to the Fellowship Baptist Church in Warren, County. Dr. Lockhart received his education in the public schools of Jefferson County. He earned his GED from Swainsboro Technical College. He attended Brewton Parker College of Mount Vernon, Georgia. He did further studies at ABT College. He later received his Honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Jacksonville Theological Seminary, Jacksonville, Florida. In 2004 Pastor Lockhart received a Doctorate in Religious Philosophy from the Trinity Theological Seminary, South Florida.  Dr. Lockhart was very dedicated to God and his ministry. He helped many young ministers to get started in the right direction. Dr. Lockhart pastored the Fellowship Baptist Church Family for 40 years, and Union Baptist Church Family for 37 Years. He was the pastor of the following churches; Walker Grove Baptist Church, (Burke, County), Jones Grove Baptist Church, (Burke, County), Roberson grove Baptist Church, (Burke, County), Smith Grove Baptist Church, (Jefferson, County), and the Lester Grove Baptist Church, (Emanuel, County). He was the Associate Pastor of the Saint Clair Baptist Church, (Burke, County). Dr. Lockhart served as President of the Sunday School Convention of the Noah Ebenezer Association in Burke, County for many years. He also served as President of the Congress of Christian Education of the Second Shiloh Association. Dr. Lockhart served as Moderator and 1st Moderator of the Second Shiloh Association for many years. Dr. Lockhart was married to the former Laverne Whigham who preceded him in death.

 He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Willie Lockhart, Melvina Moore, Lois Jackson, Johnnie Mae Tolbert, Lillie Mae Frasier, and Katie Kettles.

 He leaves to cherish his memories his wife of 36 years; Rev. Dr. Bertha W. Lockhart, Louisville, Georgia, two sons; John Augustus (Latasha) Lockhart, Jr., Augusta, Georgia, and Derek A. (Val Jean) Jones, Waynesboro, Georgia four daughters; Arnitra C. (Joel) Grubbs, Waynesboro, Georgia, Lori Lockhart (Larry) Williams, Augusta, Georgia, Kimberly J. Quarterman, Hephzibah, Georgia, and Alanna B. Jones Thomas, Augusta, Georgia, one brother; Isaiah Lockhart, Sr., Waynesboro, Georgia, grandchildren; Whitney Mack, Louisville, Georgia, Tearrence Quarterman, Ashley Jones, Atlanta, Georgia, Brandon Quarterman, Alabama, Jemila Black, Asha Black, Augusta, Georgia, Xavier Augustus Williams, Augusta, Georgia, Malaysia, Waynesboro, Georgia, and a host of loving sisters-in-laws, brothers-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

 Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 12 Noon at the Union Missionary Baptist Church, 5425 Powellton Church Road, Sparta, Georgia, with Rev. Dr. Sam Davis, as Eulogist. Interment Services will follow in the Fairfield Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 1582 Ben Hatcher Road, Waynesboro, Georgia.

 Wake Celebration will be conducted Friday, December 9, 2016 from 6:00 PM till 7:00 PM at the James and Virginia Davis Memorial Chapel, 727 Beech Street, Louisville, Georgia 30434.
