Mitchell Jones Jr. was born to the late Lula Sermons and Mitchell Jones Sr. on July 25, 1927 in Dixie, GA, God called his soldier home on December 4, 2016 at the age of 89 years old.

Mitchell was married to Donal Mitchell Jones who proceeded him in death. In those 89 years, Mitchell had two sons whom he loved with all his heart, Rufus Jones (who proceeded him in death) and Dennis Gaines and one daughter Regina Branch.

Mitchell started farming at an early age and continued to around the age of 84 years old. He was one of the best, and loved what he did. Along with farming, Mitchell also work as a school bus driver for Brooks County Transportation Department for decade,  working full time and then retiring and working part time on and off.

Mitchell also was a proud Deputy Sheriff of the Brooks County Sheriff’s Office where he worked along with some of the best deputies ever. Mitchell loved his job, his co-workers and community where he worked long hours helping everyone he came in contact with. Mitchell worked there a total of 35 plus years and retired at 76!

Mitchell was also drafted into the military around the age of 18. He served two years and spent a lot of time in Japan. Thereafter he decided to return home and do what he did best which was farm and serve as a deputy sheriff.

Mitchell lived a beautiful and full life bringing joy and love to every path he crossed. He was definitely loved.

Mitchell is survived by his Son, Dennis Gaines of Atlanta, GA; Daughter, Regina Branch (Aubrey); Goddaughter, Lovey  Marshall(Andre), both of Quitman, GA; Grandsons, Derrick Howard of Gainesville, FL, Darnell Jones of California and Keldrick Sermons of Valdosta, GA and Antwan and Mitchell.

He also leaves to mourn two nephews Gerald Wyche and Benny (Betty). Six Nieces, Diane, Cornelius, Cheryl “Niecy” Wyche, Peggy Wyche, and Gwen.

His caretakers who provided 24 hour support and who loved him dearly Brandy Graham (his Thelma) Ted, Justice Graham, Lovey Marshall Wright Jr. (Taye), Jada Graham, and Shay Brown.

Four great friends, Minnis Hollis, Darryl Frazier, Sulie Ennis, Buddy Thomas whom he loved dearly.

And a host of grandkids, great grandkids, god grandkids, nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Funeral Service for Mitchell Jones. Jr. will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Shumate Street Church of Christ, Quitman, Georgia, Bro. Tony D. Herring, Sr., Pastor/Officiating Burial: Dixie Seventh-Day Adventist Cemetery, Dixie, Georgia.

Public Viewing: 12:00-8:00 PM and Family Visitation 6:00-7:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2016 in the BTW Chapel.

    I send my love, my tightest hugs, I can't possibly give you back what God lent us...Mr . Mitchells unconditional love. I understand lost, just know nothing last always and he would want you all to look for brighter days.He was loved, and will be missed, pray for each other and let God do what he does best! I am one of Mrs.Willie Mae Bryants' grand children and he would come and drive that bus rain or shine to Simmon Hill...greetings us everyday with a smile. So I'll greet you now with that same love and smile, God blessed Mr . Mitchell 4score and 9years...he payed his dues, and set an example; it's up to us to live by it or go a separate way. I love you all. Sorry for your lost...please know you are blessed.
