A Time to be born and A Time to die
Reverend William Franklin Mason was born on February 1, 1927 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina. He was the oldest son of the late Benjamin and Laura Wallace Mason.
A Time to Learn
Rev. Mason attended Carver College (Second Ward High School), Charlotte, North Carolina in the attempt to pursue a law degree. Rev. Mason received a BA Degree of Theology from J. W. Teamer School of Religion, Charlotte, North Carolina; he also attended Hood Theological Seminary, Livingston College Salisbury, North Carolina where he received a BA Degree in Theology.
A Time of Service
Rev. Mason joined the United States Army in 1940. Rev. Mason attended O Zion AME Zion Church where he served as one of the Associate Pastors. On September 28, 1997 the Pastor and church saluted him for services rendered to the church. Rev. Mason pastured several churches in the AME Zion Connection totaling a span of over thirty-five years. This included the Statesville, Lincoln and Charlotte districts. Rev. Mason was also a former member of the Masonic Lodge: St. Matthews #85 Gastonia, North Carolina.
Rev. Mason leaves to cherish precious memories four daughters, Jean Mason Chisholm of Charlotte, N.C., Evelina Mason Robinson of Monroe, N.C., Thelma Mason Townsend and Laura A. Mason both of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, William Franklin Mason, Jr. of Charlotte, N.C. and Melvin E. Mason of Charlotte, N.C. whom he shared with his former spouse, Thelma Moore Mason; one daughter-in-law, Annette Mason; one sister, Mary Elleen Mason Young of Charlotte, N.C.; one brother, Benjamin Mason Jr., one brother-in-law, Otis Stroud of Chapel Hill, N.C.; ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren; a host of relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, John Mason, Fredrick Mason and Laura Inell Stroud; two sons-in-law, Sam Townsend and Willie Thomas Robinson, Sr..
