Alice Hazel Chavers was born to Augustas and Alma Jackson on August 29, 1914, in Deland, Florida.
Alice received her primary and secondary education in Volusia and St Lucie Counties in Florida. She graduated from Bethune-Cookman College with a teaching degree. After graduation, she was hired to teach at Lincoln Park Academy. Alice in later years opened and operated her own grocery store, kindergarten and restaurant.
Alice was a member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church and served with the Dorcus Hudson Missionary Society and the choir. She was also a dedicated member of the Fort Pierce Federated Women’s Club until it disbanded.
On Friday, December 30, 2016 there was a spirit of peace when she answered her call to join God’s heavenly angels. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, and 12 siblings.
Alice’s memory will always be cherished by: her sons, Alvin (Shenna) Sheppard of New York, NY and John (Verneda) Fuller of Fort Pierce, FL; daughter, Vanessa Lesesne of Fort Pierce, FL; 12 grandchildren, Theresa, Alice Sheppard, Chrystal, and Tiffany of New York, John (Parisa), Fuller III, Jamar Fuller, and Dwayne Rosher of Fort Pierce, FL, Marie Williams of Fort Pierce, FL, Alice (Robert) Fuller of Port St. Lucie, FL, Samuel Newton (Tonya) of Cocoa, FL. Dwayne (Marguerite) Newton of Port St. Lucie, FL, Tracy Newton (Andrea) of Fort Pierce, FL; a host of great-grandchildren; a special niece, Vivian Frazier-Edwards; and a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held 3 to 6PM Friday January 6, 2017 at Stone Brothers Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 1PM Saturday January 7, 2017 at Saint Paul A.M.E. Church, 1405 North 27th Street, Fort Pierce. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery.
