A funeral service celebrating the life and legacy of Mr. Charles Edward Dawson will be held Saturday Jan. 14, 2017 at 10 am at Greater Friendship Baptist Church. Mr. Dawson departed this life January 5, 2017 at his residence in Youngstown, OH. Mr. Dawson was born August 3, 1937 in Indianola County, MS a son of Lowrene Cruder Hopkins and Louis Dawson. Charles began singing as a young kid in the choirs at Greater Friendship Baptist Church alongside his father. As a young adult, he sang with the Silver Trumpet Choir and Male Chorus, serving as lead singer, president and director. Until his recent illness, he was still a dedicated member of the Male Chorus. He was a dedicated trustee, who didn't mind, painting, cutting the grass or doing whatever needed to be done to serve his church. 
Charles was a former employee of East Ohio Gas Co. retiring after more than 30 years of loyal service. He was blessed by God with his marriage to his beloved Roberta, whom he married on April 15, 1972. To this union they were blessed with three loving daughters and from a previous marriage he was blessed with three loving sons.
He leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife of 45 years, Roberta, their daughters, Shequita (Maurice) Sims of San Antonio, TX, Sharlotte Dawson-Mwangi of Boardman, OH, Shavonne (Rodney) Seabrook of Akron, OH; his sons, Charles Edward Dawson Jr., Kenneth, and Lezley Dawson all of Akron, OH; his sister, Earlean Roberts( Donald) Anderson of Youngstown, OH; his brothers, Leotis ( Gerri) Hopkins, Darryl Dawson all of Youngstown, OH ; his step sister, Patricia Dawson of Youngstown, OH; six grandchildren, Devon Marquise and Shakari Jonese Cunningham, Monae Khyara Sims, Syrai India Lee Seabrook, Mekhi Charles Dawson Mwangi and Rodney Khan Seabrook; a host of loving nieces, nephews, in laws; other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his step sisters, Marva Snipes and Jean Dawson ; his brother, William Simmons and Raymond Dawson.
Friends may call Friday from 6-8pm at Greater Friendship Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 9-10 am at the church.
