Semmie C. Gilmore, 67
YOUNGSTOWN - A funeral service celebrating the life of Brother Semmie C. Gilmore will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Andrewes A.M.E. Church. Bro. Semmie C. Gilmore, 67, departed this life on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Bro. Gilmore was born Sept. 30, 1949, in Youngstown, a son of Jasper and Dorothy Jennings Jackson Gilmore Jr.
In his earlier years, Semmie worked at Youngstown Sheet and Tube Co. He also worked as a nurse’s aide and security guard before retiring. He was a member of Rising Sun FOM No. 90, Brothers of Covington Hall No. 59 and a patron of Eastern Star Covenant No. 48.
Bro. Gilmore was an avid fisherman, he loved football and was a die-hard Steelers fan. He also enjoyed spending time with family and loved to attend family functions. He also served a few years in the U.S. Marines.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved fiancée, Sylvia C. Harris; his children, Aaron L. Sanders Sr. of Louisiana, Stacy (Jason) Sylvester of Youngstown, and Semmie Gilmore Jr. of Columbus; his stepchildren, Belinda Abron, Cecilia (Derick) Parker, Lela Harris, and Ralph Harris; his siblings, William K. (Carrie) Gilmore of Virginia Beach, Va., Robert Gilmore, Cheryl (Rick) Boudrey, Sabra “Shelly” Gilmore, Yvonne (Jerald) Drummer, and Pamela (Israel) Jusino, all of Youngstown; 39 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Connie Cheers; and his brothers, Arthur Gilmore and Henry Sellers.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, one hour prior services at the church, and Masonic rites will be performed from   10:45 to 11 a.m
