Lizzie Lee McElhaney Ellis was born November 6, 1932 in York, South Carolina, she was the eldest daughter of the late Sydney and Sadie Watson McElhaney.  She departed this life peacefully on Monday, January 23, 2017 at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Gastonia, North Carolina.

Lizzie Lee was a member of Center Baptist Church in Gastonia, North Carolina where she served on the Musical Choir, Hymn Choir, Usher Board, and Missionary Circle for many years.

She worked for Lineberger Fish Camp, Gastonia, North Carolina for many years, and she retired from housekeeping duties for Beverly Lineberger after twenty years.  She also worked for Mrs. Mary Carpenter and the Cramerton Café.

Besides her parents, Lizzie was preceded in death by her husband of forty-eight years, William Ellis; daughter, Melvina Ellis; sisters, Macie Matthews and Josephine Tate; brothers, Floyd McElhaney and James McElhaney.

She leaves to cherish precious memories her sons, Carl Ellis Sr. (Ruby) and Willie Ellis (Willie Mae) of Gastonia, N.C., Sidney Ellis of Lowell, N.C., Minister Roddy Ellis (Lisa) of Bessemer City, N.C. and Eric Ellis of the home; sisters, Mattie Alexander of Clover, S.C., and Sadie Moss (William) of Gastonia, N.C.; thirty grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren, twenty great great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Gastonia, N.C. 28052

Monday, January 30, 2017 @ 12:00 Noon

The family will receive friends at the church for thirty minutes prior to funeral.
(11:30 until 12:00 Noon)

    During times such as these the bible provides us comfort. Psalm 34:18 says that Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted. He also promises a resurrection of our dead love ones in John 5:28,29.
