Mr. William H. Whitaker, Sr., 78, of 105 Melody Drive, Clinton, NC, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2017, at his residence.  

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017, at 11:00am at First Baptist Church, 900 College Street, Clinton, NC, officiated by the Rev. Thomas R. Farrow, Jr.  Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

A visitation will be held at First Baptist Church, 900 College Street, Clinton, NC on Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

Mr. Whitaker is survived by his daughter, Melody G. Hall (Howard), a granddaughter, Lauren G. Hall, Gastonia, NC, his son, Dr. William H. Whitaker, Jr., Columbia, SC, sister, Christine E. Wheeler, Washington, DC, two sisters-in-law, Mattie G. Moseley, Jacksonville, NC and Mable C. Faison, Clinton, NC, nephew, Monty Faison (Leslie) great niece, Montoria Faison and great nephew, Lexton Faison, Knightdale, NC, Niece, Equong Jones (James) great niece, Alisha Lewis, great nephew, Karl Lewis, Philadelphia, PA.

    Mr Whitaker was a pillar of the North Carolina Community. My mom, Ruby Eason, taught at Butler Avenue School while Mr. Whitaker was the principal. Those were definitely the good ole days. Mel and Billy, I can only imagine how hard this is to handle, however please know that he was loved and will truly be missed by us all. The Eason and Davis family have you in our prayers.

    A wonderful role model to so many of us. Mr. Whitaker taught us in school and was Principal to our children when they were in school. He was a warm, caring man who loved everyone.     Mr. Whitaker was a fine man, a voice of reason and sense during an era when the Clinton City Schools were still learning to exist as a desegregated school system. He was kind, decent and self-sacrificing, and it was an honor to know him. My condolences to the family.
