The Obituary & Life of Deacon Jesse J. Newsome, Sr., 67

Jesse James Newsome was born in Brooks County, Georgia on May 19, 1949 to the late Lucille Fulton Newsome Jones and Carl Newsome, Sr.  He departed this life on January 22, 2017.

He was educated in the Brooks County School system, where he later decided to support the community by driving a bus called “The Double Dutch” bus.  He took all the children in the 80s to the skating palace.

He then decided to have his first job with Powell’s Farm Supply, owned by Mr. A. J. Powell, who loved him like a son.  He was also employed by Del-Cook in Adel, Georgia and Scruggs Concrete in Valdosta, Georgia.  He later retired from Adel Steels Company in Adel.  Years later, God wanted him to do something different.  Jesse joined First Born Church in Adel, Georgia where he served as a Deacon for most of his life, resilient in any work he could do for anyone else.

He left this world with his loving and devoted wife, Betty Lee Newsome of Barney, GA.  He leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters; Joyce Newsome, Felicia Newsome (Terrance), Betty Jean Newsome all of Quitman, GA and Debra Mitchell (Anthony) of Valdosta, GA.  Five sons; Jesse Newsome, Jr. (Carol), Covington, GA, Johnny Newsome (Latoya), Colia Newsome, Anthony Newsome and Tyrone Newsome (Catesha) all of Quitman, GA. Three sisters; Myra Silas (James, Sr.), Mary Hill (Isaac-Deceased) all of Quitman, GA and Emma Cole (George, Sr.), Stone Mountain, GA.  Three brothers; Wesley Newsome (Marlene), Valdosta, GA, Carl Newsome, Sr. (Maryland), Quitman, GA and Joseph Newsome of Florida.  Nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Special nieces and nephews, Melissa McKinnon, Patricia Thomas, Jimmy Bartee, Edward Bartee and Javon Newsome.  One uncle, Joseph Fulton of Valdosta, GA and a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Miracle Temple First Born Church in Adel, Georgia with Bishop Freddie Camon officiating. Burial followed in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Barney, Georgia. Condolences may be made by visiting  Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
