The Obituary & Life of Deaconess Betty L. Newsome, 82

Betty Lee Newsome was born November 10, 1934 in Taylor County (Foley, FL) to Aaron and Noner Williams, who both preceded her in death. Daughter, Ermatine Rowells, sister Virginia Sermons and a brother Raiford Newsome all preceded her in death.

Betty received her early education in the Brooks County School system.  After growing up in Barney, Georgia, Betty moved to Miami, Florida to be close to her big brother.   There she found domestic and cafeteria work.  While working in the cafeteria, Betty learned to make the best yeast rolls, tastiest buttermilk homemade biscuits and the most mouthwatering cakes of all kinds.  Betty enjoyed sewing suits, clothing of all sorts, old fashioned patchwork quilts and laced trimmed handkerchiefs of all colors to match every Sunday outfit; this was a treasured hobby of hers.

Betty knew at an early age that she needed more than silver and gold.  She accepted Christ as her personal Savior.  She worshipped and served with the First Born Church of God, Florida Church of Holiness under the leadership of Bishop Corbett for many years before uniting with her brother at the House of God.

In January of 2003, Betty returned to the small town of Barney to help care for her aging mother. There, she met and fell in love with Jesse J. Newsome.  They exchanged wedding vows in 2007.  They set a high standard for Sunday dress as you would find their dress attire matching from head to toe, complimenting one another.  Jesse had on a cap or hat and Betty had a handkerchief in hand.  They both joined the First Born Church-Mission of Hope under the leadership of Elder Cleveland Williams in Adel, Georgia where she was a faithful member, Sunday School attendee and Deaconess.  Betty was also District Deaconess for her First Born Church Association.

God was ready for His angel.  On January 22, 2017, He called her from labor to rest. She leaves to remember and cherish her memories; a son, Aaron (Naomi) Sims, Miami, FL; a daughter, Adrienne N. Sims, Acworth, GA; five granddaughters, Cheryl and Gina Crawford, Schanteria Thomas all of Miami, FL, Erinetta Flowers, Valdosta, GA and Jazmine Sims, Tallahassee, FL; four grandsons, Ian and Erik Thomas, Anthony Sims and Derrick Cooks all of Miami, FL; a sister, Elveria (Thomas) Newsome, Adel, GA; a brother, Cleveland (Margaret) Williams, Adel, GA; special niece, Brenda Williams Scavella, Miami, FL; four great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who love her dearly.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at Miracle Temple First Born Church in Adel, Georgia with Bishop Freddie Camon officiating. Burial followed in the New Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Barney, Georgia.
