MRS. EVA MAE BENNETT

Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal”    (Thomas Moore, 1813)

As hard as it is to accept the death of a virtuous woman and a loving mother, it comforts her family to know she is now resting in the arms of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  We rejoice in knowing heaven is now her new home, and one day we shall be together again.

Eva Mae Robinson Bennett was born on June 5, 1927 and adopted into the loving home of Virge and Ella Robinson Bittle.  She quietly transitioned into eternal rest on Friday, February 17, 2017.

Eva confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Harris Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.  She was baptized years later as an adult.  She loved God, her family, and her church profoundly.  Consequently, her love was reflected in her dedicated service and support over a span of 70 years.  Eva served as church clerk and conference delegate for over 25 years.  Also, she served in many leadership roles which included the following:  President of the Adult Choir, President of the Usher Board, President of the Kitchen Committee, President Emeritus, and Life Member of Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society, Deaconess, Trustee, and Stewardess.

Within her community, she loved helping people and the same love reciprocated from others as many affectionately referred to her as their second mother.  She contributed to the Board of Directors at Anson Regional Medical Services, participated in the Wadesboro Branch of the NAACP, and joined the Electa Chapter #525 Order of the Eastern Star, PHA.  She enjoyed gospel music, singing, cooking, traveling, and gardening.

Additionally, she worked for 26 years in the Anson County Schools Child Nutrition program and retired from McRae Elementary School as cafeteria manager.  She also worked part-time for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Wadesboro Nursing Home.  On June 18, 1997, an Anson Record news article recognized her heroism at a hair salon when she used the Heimlich maneuver training she learned at a summer child nutrition conference to save a choking young boy’s life.

In 1950, she married Freddie Bennett, who preceded her in death in July 2002, as well as their only son, Alfred in May 2008.  Her sister/cousin Tommie Lee Pratt, with whom she was very close, transitioned just six days before her on February 11, 2017. Her adoptive sister Annie V. also preceded her in death.

She leaves six beautiful, intelligent, and successful daughters to cherish their loving memories of a smiling, gentle, and warm-spirited mother: Marie (Morven, NC), Marilynn (Wadesboro, NC), Dianne (Aberdeen, NC), Dr. Shelia (Apex, NC), Judy (Holly Springs, NC) and Cathy (Holly Springs, NC);  Two granddaughters: Ashley (Colonial Heights, VA) and Amber (Aberdeen, NC); One grandson, Jermaine (Morven, NC);  Six great grandsons, Marlon, Markeith, Jordan, Christian, Joshua, and Jaxon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Eva remained steadfast in her beliefs, values, and morals throughout her lifetime as a devoted Christian wife and mother, a loving caregiver to her grandchildren, and a loyal employee.  In her honor, she left a strong and impactful legacy for all of the lives she touched to continue in her name.

The Homegoing Services will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2017, 1:00pm, Harris Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, Morven, North Carolina.  Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Park.

The Bennett Family will greet family and friends at the residence of the daughter, Mrs. Marilyn Bennett, 4562 Country Club Road, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

A Memorial Service honoring Mother Bennett will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, 4:00pm, at 4562 Country Club Road, Wadesboro, North Carolina.

Mother Bennett will be viewed at Smith's Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 from 2:00-3:00pm.
