James Robert Massengill, 86, a resident of Caballo, NM, died in at Mountain View Regional Medical Center in Las Cruces, NM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017.  He was born on August 7, 1930 in Four Oaks, North Carolina to Henry and Hannah (Allan) Massengill.

Mr. Massengill was a retired Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army.  He was a combat veteran serving two tours in Vietnam and also served in Korea.  He was an Operations Officer, helicopter and fixed wing pilot leading combat assaults, in addition to, special assistant to the Commander of First Aviation Brigade.  He also worked for the State of North Carolina.

Survivors include his son, Bill Massengill & wife, Debbie, of Lafayette, Indiana; wife, Barbara Massengill, of Caballo, NM; 5/grandchildren – Foster, Steven, Danae, Anna, Brandon & wife, Melissa; and stepchildren – Carol Rudisill & wife, Ladi Markham of Oakland, CA, Allan Rudisill & Darlene of Kasilof, AK, Lynn Porter & Marley, of Marble Falls, TX.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2017 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M and Monday, February 27, 2017, from 9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M.  A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, February 27, 2017, at 1:00 P.M. at the Hillsboro Cemetery in Hillsboro, NM.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, 383 Main Avenue, 5th Floor, Norwalk, CT 06851, (203-229-0464); Wounded Warriors, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675 (904-296-7350) or a similar charitable foundation would be appreciated.

    So sorry to hear about your recent loss. Losing someone dear is a trial that no one should go through. May the words of 1 Peter 5:7 bring you some comfort in these tough times. It says: "while you throw all your anxiety on him, because he cares for you." Yes, our Loving God cares for each one of us. This is why he has made the provision of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored into a paradise (John 5:28, 29; Psalms 37:9-11, 29). What a wonderful day it will be to welcome back to life our loved ones that have fallen asleep in death. No, this is not just a dream for Isaiah 55:11 tell us that everything that God says he will do, he does without fail.
