A homegoing celebration in honor of Mrs. Mary L. Sterling will be held Friday at 11 am at Second Baptist Church in Warren, OH, 1512 Main Avenue S.W. Warren,OH.
The family will receive friends at her daughter’s residence on Linda Dr. N.W. Warren, and on Friday from 10am-11 am at the church.

Mary Lee “Yunk” Lacy Sterling, 85, of Warren, entered eternal rest with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on March 4, 2017.

Mrs. Sterling was born February 27, 1932, in Columbus, Mississippi, the daughter of Annie and Robert Lacy.

She loved the Lord and her family, a devoted loving sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.  She was a homemaker and former landlord.  She made sure all her children knew about the Lord and receive a formal education. She was selected and named “Mother of the Year” by a contest sponsored by a local radio station from Trumbull County area.
Mrs. Sterling wrote a cookbook for her family, “Cooking Mom’s Way,” in which she included her tips and suggestions for many of her soul food recipes.
Mayor Doug Franklin presented her with a “Proclamation” and honored her with “Mary Lee Lacy-Sterling Day in the city of Warren” at a celebration of her 85th Birthday on February 26, 2017 with family and friends.

The Mayor recognized that Mrs. Mary Lee Lacy-Sterling was a very special and caring person who, in her 85 years of life, shared the gifts of giving, loving, and helping, with all the people that were inspired by her work; she has added so much to the world for all the lives she has touched.

She was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Warren and enjoyed writing poetry, reading the Bible (she had read the entire Bible three times front to back) and listening and singing gospel music.

Mrs. Sterling married the love of her life, Lester B. Sterling on January 16, 1954, and moved to Ohio in 1957.  Mary and Lester enjoyed 54 years of marriage together, until his passing in November of 2008.
She leaves to cherish her life and honor her memories, four daughters, Liz (Michael) Tipton of Warren, Dorothy Sterling of Chicago, Illinois, Betty Sterling of Warren, Shirley (Fred) Greene of Warren; three step-sons of Alabama, Joe Lester, Eddie B, and James, a step daughter, Josephine Sterling Simon of Alabama, two sisters, Ernestine Randolph and Mattie Will Brown of Tacoma Washington; five brothers, William Lacy of Kankakee, Illinois, Johnnie Johnson of Columbus Mississippi, John, Andrew, and Jab Lacy all of Columbus Mississippi, five special daughters, Mary Louise Lacy of  Bourbonnais, Illinois, Alberta Watson-Black of Warren, Mattie and Charlene Coleman of Niles, and Candy Harris of Warren, (deceased); a special sister,  Cleo Blakely of Youngstown; four grandchildren, Richard James, Tavis, William Michael, and Arnesha Marie; 5 great grandchildren.

In saddened to hear of the loss of Mary. Surely she has touched the lives of many. May all find, some comfort in the words of Nahum 1:7 which reads: "Jehovah is good, a stronghold in the day of distress. He is mindful of those seeking refuge in him." How good to know that our Loving God is ready to support us when most needed! He also has made provision for a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise! What a JOY! To welcome back to life our loved ones like Mary and others, who have fallen asleep in death. This is Sure to come, for everything God says he accomplishes without fail (Isaiah 55:11).
