When all was quiet and still, God, in his infinite wisdom, saw fit to remove from our midst our beloved, Joanne Lavon Malker.  Joanne was born to the late Mr. Jesse L. Malker, Sr. and Mrs. Rachel Thompson on May, 31, 1942, in Gaston County.  She departed this life on March 14, 2017, at CaroMont Health Regional Medical Center, Gastonia, North Carolina.  Up until her long illness, Joanne was a devoted member of Mount Zion Restoration Church of Gastonia, North Carolina.  She was a graduate of Lincoln High School – Class of 1961 and a member of the Order of Eastern Starr - Electa Chapter #174 of Charlotte, North Carolina.  Joanne was employed and retired as a seamstress from Dallas Sports Knitting of Dallas, North Carolina.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Jesse L. Malker, Jr., James A. Malker, and Robert E. Malker.

Joanne leaves to cherish her loving memories one sister Mrs. Doreatha Malker Sherrill of Mount Holly, North Carolina; one daughter, Michelle Malker Williams (Joe) of Gastonia, North Carolina; two sons, Martin Lydell Malker (Charisse) of Kings Mountain, North Carolina and Dr. Edgar Eugene Malker of Glenn Dale, Maryland; one special son Gregory L. Dorr of Glenn Dale, Maryland who was like her own; and a host of grandchildren (Kenyatta Brown, Aaron Brooks, Nicole Brooks, and Brandon Malker), great grandchildren (13), nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and loved ones.

Joanne loved planting flowers and giving of her time as well as laughing with family and friends and hosting family gatherings.  Her mission was to make all those she came in contact with feel special and she never met a stranger.  Through her wit and infectious sense of humor, she was a wonderful person to be around.  Her passion extended to helping people as well as sharing and giving as much to others as she could.  Her spirit of giving will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
