MR. FLOYD HARRINGTON

One of God's special angels said good-bye to us on Thursday, March 16, 2017. He departed this life peacefully at CMC-Union Hospital in Monroe, N.C.

Floyd Harrington, the son of the late Johnny Harrington and Johnsie Marshall Harrington, was born May 11, 1919 in Anson County.

Floyd was a product of Anson County Training School.  He entered the U.S. Army on February 24, 1942. He served in New Guinea during the war as a postal clerk and truck driver.

During this time, he was stationed in the state of Mississippi. There, he meant his loving wife, Ginger Lucille McCollins. They were married in 1945.  He was discharged with honors in January 11, 1946.

He joined Gatewood Station A.M.E. Zion Church. He remained a faithful member for years. Later, he and his family joined Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Lilesville, N.C.  As a member, he was active in the Sunday School, Senior Choir, and was a member on the Trustee Board.

Mr. Floyd was well-known in the community. He was a member of the VFW Club, Breakfast Club at Bojangles in Wadesboro, and also loved to fellowship at IGA with friends who have all preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories:  His sons: Floyd Harrington Jr. (Cindy) of High Point, N.C., Maurice Harrington (Irene) of Lilesville, N.C., and Melvin Harrington of Raleigh, N.C.   His daughters: Gwen Harrington Austin of Raleigh, N.C., Terri Harrington Robinson (Curtis) of Morven, N.C., Teresa Harrington of Sicklerville, N.J., and Shirley Pierce (Barry) of Knightdale, N.C. 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

 Two brothers and one sister who preceded him in death; John Harrington (Rosetta) of Lilesville, N.C. and Sylvester Harrington (Etta) of High Point, N.C. and Easter Harrington Diggs of Lilesville, N.C.  A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The Homegoing Celebration will be on Tuesday, March 21, 2017, 1:00pm, Smith's Memorial Chapel, 604 Salisbury Street, Wadesboro, North Carolina.  Burial will follow in Westview Memorial Park, Highway 74-West, Wadesboro, North Carolina.  

The Harrington Family will assemble at Smith's Funeral Home at 12:30pm and greet family and friends until 1:00pm.
