I want to offer my condolences to the Thomas family and friends. It is a painful thing to lose a love one in death; even Jesus, when Lazarus died, "gave way to tears"(John 11: 35). It pains our Creator, too. He calls death an enemy and that “he will swallow up death forever”( Isaiah 25:8; 1 Corinthians 15:26). He has also promised to bring our love ones back to life__ Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will rise ...Awake and shout joyfully you residents in the dust! ...the earth will let those powerless in death come to life". I hope these words give you all comfort.

I want to express my sincerest sympathy to the Thomas family and friends because of losing Alvin recently in death. When our loved ones fall asleep in death, the pain and grief seems unbearable. Our loving God Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) understands how we feel and he comforts us by means of his word the Bible. Psalm 34: 18 tells us: "Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." Jehovah invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection. (John 5:28, John 6:40 and John 11:23-25) Also, Titus 1: 2 tells us this promise of a resurrection: "is based on a hope of the everlasting life that God, who cannot lie, promised long ago." Isaiah 26:19 "Your dead will live......And the earth will let those powerless in death come to life." Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever. For Jehovah himself has spoken it." The Bible also enlightens us at Hebrews 2:14 "so that through his (Jesus) death, he (Jesus) might bring to nothing the one having the means to cause death, that is, the Devil." I would like to offer my deepest sympathy for the loss of your loved one. Although this is a difficult time, you can be assured that God cares for your family and can be a source of comfort (2 Corinthians 1: 3, 4). He also promises a time soon when death will be brought to nothing (1 Corinthians 15: 26, Isaiah 25:8). We can look forward to such a joyous time. For additional information, please visit jw.org.
