Louis Charles Powell, Sr. affectionately called “L.C.”, was born December 20, 1939 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the parentage of Mr. Louis Charles Powell and Mrs. Maggie Powell, both who preceded him in death. After the demise of his parents, his mother-in-law, Jeanette Amones, stepped in and became not only his mother but his best friend. He referred to her as “My Nette.”

He received his education from Hattiesburg Public Schools.

He joined the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend R. W. Woullard Sr. He worked diligently in the church. In 1974, he became a Deacon and during his tenure as Deacon, he served as the assistant Chairman and the Chairman of the board. He also became a member of the Trustee Board where he served as Chairman and Assistant Chairman. Deacon Powell served “faithfully” on both boards until he departed this life on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

He united in Holy Matrimony to Patricia Powell. Louis, “L.C.” was a devoted, loving husband to his wife and a beautiful father to his children. He was also a “Pillar of Strength” to the church and the community.

For 35 years, he was employed by the City of Hattiesburg, where he became one of the first African Americans to drive a bus in the City of Hattiesburg. He later became the Director of the Hattiesburg Mass Transit System.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, a loving wife Patricia; four children: Jeffery (Calva) of Mansfield, TX, children: Jessica, Adriana, Alyssa, Jo’ Rai; Louis (Cassandra) of Hattiesburg, MS, children: Justin, Louis III, Lawrence King of Fort Irvin, CA, Ta’niyah Bowie of Greenville,MS Eshad Barnes of Collins, MS; Randy of Hattiesburg, MS; Jermaine (Pamela) of Hattiesburg, MS, children: Jermain II, Alexie Baldwin of Norfolk, VA; Tristin Wally of Richton, MS. He cherished and loved his 5 great grandchildren: Aiden, Shelton, Jeremiah of Hattiesburg, MS., Jonas and Madeleine of Fort Irwin, CA.; He is also survived by one brother, George Faulkner (Arnetta) of Virginia Beach, VA; 2 nephews ; George Jr.; (Arnetta) George Jr. of Hampton, VA and  Kelwin of Suffolk, VA; 1 niece: Angela of Newman, GA and a host of relatives and friends.
