          “The greatest man you ever knew.”  It is with such heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, grandfather and friend, George Bernard “Shorty” Jones on Monday, April 10, 2017.  George was born on September 2, 1930 to William Henry and Vassie Ann (Crow) Jones.  He was the youngest of nine children and grew up in Clarksville, Georgia. 

George enlisted in the U.S. Air Force at the age of 17, where he served proudly.  He met the love of his life, Peggy Ruth Taylor and they were married in Missouri in 1951.  The union would last 64 years until Peggy’s passing in 2015.  They had two beautiful daughters – Rita Mae and Ruth Ann.

He worked as a lineman for the government from 1957 to 1986.  He loved “climbing those poles” and had no fear of heights.  Even after retirement he couldn’t stand to not work, so he worked for Kirikos Family Funeral Home as part of the cemetery crew. 

George was loved by everyone who knew him.  His beautiful smile, ice blue eyes, sense of humor and wise knowledge made him so likable.  He was so kind and generous to those he loved, and even to complete strangers stranded on the road.  He was a strong man with a strong will that always made you feel safe.

He loved the outdoors.  Everything from camping to fishing, being on the water, shooting his guns, or just working on his yard.  Being up in the mountains was his “paradise”.

Survivors include his sister, Willene Barron; 2/daughters – Ruth Ann Jones and partner, Chip, and Rita Mae Baca and husband, Randy; grandson, Kristopher George Butner; granddaughter, Sabrina Butner; great-granddaughter, Samantha; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends; and his beloved dog “Pooky”.  Special thanks to Rita Baca for always being there for him.  “Miss you already Pa.”

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Celebration Service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at 2:00 P.M. at the Sierra Church of Christ Church with Pastor Danny McKinney officiating. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in George’s memory to the Sierra County Cancer Assistance, HC32 Box 8174, T. or C., NM 87901, 575-740-3971 or to Sierra Vista Hospital Auxiliary, 800 E. 9th St., T. or C., NM  87901.

    I'm sorry to hear about your recent loss. May you find some comfort in the words of Psalms 46:1 which reads: "God is our refuge and strength, A help that is readily found in times of distress." Yes, our Loving God care about us and made the provision of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored into a paradise (John 5:28, 29; Psalms 37:9-11, 29).     Pa, I miss you every single day. I was so lucky to have so many years with you. You were the greatest man I have ever known. You taught me so many things about life, love, and how to be an amazing person. I am so happy you are with Ma now, as it broke your heart when she left us.     Buenos dias mi nombre es Ana se que usted y su familia no me conoce pero solo quiero darles mis condolencias a usted y su familia por la perdida de su ser amado, se lo que es pasar por una perdida así y por eso me gustaria compartir con usted una promesa biblica que me a ayudado mucho cuando e perdido un ser querido en la muerte, y es la premesa esperanzadora que aparece en el texto bíblico de Revelación 21:4 donde dios nos promete que muy pronto acabará con la muerte y todas las cosas que nos causan clamor y dolor pasaran por siempre, entiendo si le cuesta creer en esta promesa pues solo conocemos sobre las resurrecciones que hizo Jesucristo y ninguno de las personas que vivieron en su tiempo viven hoy para decirnos, yo las vi y creo en ellas,pero la biblia es un libro que da detalles de las promesas que dios nos hace para ayudarnos a mejorar nuestra vida y en ella misma dice que él es un dios que no puede mentir pues en él no se encuentra ningun engaño ,asi que ¡cuanto consuelo nos da estas promesas esperanzadoras que el nos hace! A mi y mi familia nos han ayudado mucho a sentir y creer que nuestros seres amados solo estan dormidos en la muerte y pronto vamos a volver a estar juntos y esto nos llena de consuelo, de todo corazón lo acompaño a usted y su familia en su dolor, no olvide que dios en su infinito amor y bondad jamas se olvidará de ustedes y les traera consuelo, tenga buen día

    Buenas tardes aunque no me conoce quise dejarle mis condolencias por la perdida de su ser amado y entiendo pues recientemente mi familia y yo pasamos por el mismo dolor,pero nos sirvió de mucho consuelo las palabras de un texto bíblico que nos brindó una gran esperanza,son las palabras de Revelación 21:4 donde dios nos asegura limpiar todas nuestras lágrimas que nos causa nuestro mayor enemigo,la muerte que tanto dolor y sufrimiento nos ocasiona,pero solo lloraremos de felicidad pues también nos promete en la biblia en el texto bíblico de Hechos 24:15 donde dios nos promete que seamos buenos o malas personas a la vista dios él nos promete que de igual forma seremos devueltos a la vida mediante una resurrección, esta promesa animadora nos a llenado de mucho animo y consuelo a mi y mi familia y deseo de todo corazón que sea un alivio para usted y su familia ,dios ayude a superar su dolor poco a poco,tenga buen día
