Reverend Silas Johnson, Jr., 79 of 310 Jones St., New Bern died Friday, April 14, 2017 at PruittHealth-Trent.

His service is 11:00 AM Thursday at Clinton Chapel A. M. E. Zion Church  1015 Church St. New Bern  Burial will follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.

He is a native of Concord, NC and served as a minister for 57 years.  He began in 1960 with the Primitive Baptist Association.  In 1973, he became a minister in the N. C. A.M.E.Zion Central Conference, followed by the Blue Ridge Conference. He  was pastor at St. Matthews, Morris Chapel, Pleasant Hill, St. Mark,  Mt. Olive, St. John, Union Chapel and Alliance Chapel A. M. E. Zion Churches.  He retired from the Craven County School System Transportation Department.

He is survived by his wife, Shelia S. Johnson of the home; step-children, Bobby Cannon and Ethelene Cannon both of Concord, NC; brother, Bobby Johnson of Concord; sisters, Ruth Asbury and Mildred J. Nurse both of Concord, Joann Anderson of Ft. Campbell, KY.
