Louis Owens Bryson, the youngest child of the late Green and Della Bryson, quietly transitioned from this earthly life to an eternal life with God on Saturdayc, May 6, 2017.  Louis was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee on January 17, 1936.  Louis lived a very joyous life until his battle with Alzheimer’s. In 2012, Louis moved to The Terrace, an assisted living apartment complex in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  He lived at The Terrace until his death. He grew up in his family’s church, Hurst United Methodist Church in North Chattanooga where he joined at a young age and served faithfully. As a man of deep faith, Louis joined Ben Hill United Methodist when he first moved to Atlanta.  He later joined Warren Memorial United Methodist Church and loved singing in the choir. He supported his church until his health began to decline, and he had to return to Chattanooga. Louis attended Spears Avenue Elementary School where he excelled in his academics, earning him the title of “a smart kid”.  After graduating from Howard High School in 1952 at the age of 16, he enrolled at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. He attended Morehouse for two years and then made an unlikely decision to enlist in the United States Air Force where he was stationed in Washington, DC and Thule Air Base in Greenland. Keeping a promise to his mother to return to college upon completing his military duties, Louis entered Tennessee State University in Nashville, Tennessee and earned a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree. After successful studies at Tennessee State University, Louis returned to Chattanooga where and was employed as a sociology and psychology teacher at Howard High School, his alma mater. His years of stellar performance as a teacher in his high school led Louis to become a Psychologist in the Chattanooga Public Schools. From his marriage to Delores Lane, two beautiful children were born: Lynn and Louis, Jr. (Chico). Louis Bryson was a proud parent and loved his family. He moved his family to Atlanta, Georgia to develop a career with the U. S. Department of Education in their office of Civil Rights. He remained a federal employee for over 30 years. Louis loved traveling and found time to take his family on numerous road trips. Because his Dad was a chauffeur and Louis loved driving on long road trips, the family joke was that those Bryson’s loved to drive! When Louis retired from the U. S. Department of Education, he drove to the golf course and spent years of enjoying the game of golf. He loved golf so much that he was hired at the Alfred “Tup’ Holmes and Browns Mill Golf Courses, there gaining many new friends and golf buddies. He was very thankful to God for allowing him to have a full working career, plus have time to have some fun and relaxation in his life. Louis Owens Bryson leaves his love and appreciation to his devoted family: His daughter, Lynn Bryson Charles (Patrick) and his son, Louis “Chico” Bryson, Jr. both of Los Angeles, CA; and one sister, Roberta Bryson Oglesby of Chattanooga, TN. Cherishing his love and memories also are his granddaughter, Grace Charles of Los Angeles, CA; sister-in-law Tommye Bryson of Chattanooga, TN; nieces Gayle Oglesby Ricks of Columbia, SC, Tamara Oglesby of Chattanooga, TN and Debra Bryson Mitchell (Gerald) of Palmetto, GA; nephew DellwenSutton of San Diego, CA; great nephews Johnny “JJ” Ricks of Woodbridge, VA, Bryson Mitchell of Atlanta, GA and many other family members and dear friends. His brother, Wendell, preceded him in death. Proverbs 10:7 states that the memory of a good person is a blessing. Let all of us remember the quiet, loving and respectful person whom we knew as Louis Owens Bryson. The body will lie in state beginning at 11:00 am Monday, May 15, 2017 at Hurst United Methodist Church located at 829 Dallas Rd Chattanooga, TN 37405. The family will receive friends at the church until the service begins at 1:00 pm. Interment: Chattanooga National Cemetery, 2:30 pm.

"And the last enemy, death, is to be brought to nothing." (1 Corinthians 15:26) God promises that he will soon wipe away and reverse the effects of this enemy that causes so much pain. Your precious Mr Bryson will be brought back to you and you will never have to experience the pain of losing him ever again. This is a promise from God! (Isaiah 33:24; Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:4,5)

To the family of Lou Bryson, I just read the obituary regarding his death. May God Bless the family. I was one of his golfing buddies attempting to play the game, shooting high scores, but we had lots of fun. He was a good friend.

My heart aches for Lynn, Chico and the Bryson family to lose in death your precious loved one Louis. Words are so limited that can give comfort, so I would like to share with you a beautiful scripture where our heavenly Father, Jehovah (Psalm 83:18) invites you to throw all your burdens on him and he will sustain you in your time of grief. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow, but we are all guaranteed a resurrection. John 6: 40; "For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who recognizes the Son and exercises faith in him should have everlasting life, and I will resurrect him on the last day". John 5: 28; "Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out..." John 11:23-25; "Jesus said to her: "I am the resurrection and the life." The one who exercises faith in me, even tho he dies, will come to life. I pray that Jesus's promise to reunite us with our loved ones on resurrection day will carry you through the difficult days ahead and gradually replace your tears of grief with tears of Joy as you reflect on your precious memories of happier times. The family is in my prayers and I offer my heartfelt condolences. Feel free to me at my email address: For more comforting scriptures please visit: It has given me hope, strengthened my faith and helped me find the answer to Why? I know it will do the same for you.
