Margaret Smith Roseboro was born to the late Roosevelt T. and Eloise B. Smith on April 21, 1938 in Smyrna, SC, York County. She left this earthly realm to be with her “Heavenly Father” on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at Robin Johnson Hospice House in Dallas, North Carolina.

Mrs. Margaret was educated in Gaston County schools and graduated from Highland High School, Class of 1956. She remained active with her classmates and friends until her health no longer allowed. She was a life member of St. Peter’s Tabernacle A.M.E. Zion Church. She served in various ministries throughout the years. In her latter years, she attended church with her daughters at Unity Place A.M.E. Zion Church and St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church.

She was married and devoted to her husband of 48 years, the late Floyd M. Roseboro. From their union they have four children, eight grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren to continue their legacy.

Prior to her retirement in 2012, Mrs. Margaret was employed with Matthew’s Belk of Gastonia for 48 years. Starting as an elevator operator with the Housekeeping Department, she proved that commitment and hard work brings promotion and later moved to the sales floor and later became a credit department supervisor and customer service associate. Her loving personality and smile, nurtured lifelong friendships and acquaintances.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Pauline Nichols and brother, Theodore R. T. Smith.

Mrs. Margaret, (Ma, Momma, Big Mama, Nana) leaves to cherish her memory her children: Angela Roseboro (Tanya Russell) of Charlotte, NC, Darlene Roseboro and Karen Miller of Gastonia, NC, and son F. Eric Roseboro (Vivian) of  Blythewood, SC. Her grandchildren: Eric, Monique, Samantha, Jonathan, Terrell, Bianca, Devin (Maxine), and Jerry; her great-grandchildren: Tykel, Mone, Zyquan, Emani, Amari, Terrell, Eric Jr., Darrick, Nazir, Emyree, Nina, and Alanni; her sister Mary S. Craine (Dupree) of Newport News, VA and brother Leonard Good of Gastonia, NC; her sisters-in-law; and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.

The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 12:30 until 1:00 P.M.
