Kernie "Sonny" Grinel Jr., transitioned to his Heavenly home at the age of 72 on Friday, May 12, 2017 under the watchful eye of his granddaughter Jyneco "Neke" Hicks. He was retired from Dun and Bradstreet Group where he worked for over thirty years. Kernie was active in his church serving in the choir ministries. Son of the late Kernie Sr. and Gussie Grinel. Husband of the late Geraldine W. Grinel. Stepfather of the late Georgia Tillie. He leaves to cherish his memories of love and dedication, son, Ashton Grinel; step daughters, Norva Myles of Goose Creek, SC and Hilda Walker of Columbus, GA; Ten grandchildren, Jyneco (Gerard) Hicks, Marco (Melanie) and Michelle Thornton, Tracy and Angela Colter, Stayce Michelle, Natosha (Bernard) Mabry, Willlie and Melvin Lessley and Richana (Robert) Wright. Also survived by twenty four great grandchildren; siblings, Delores Martin, Johnny, Sr. (Ruth) and George (LaGatha) Grindle; Sister in law, Verna Holloway; brother in law, Richard Clark; five Godchildren, Andrea Martin, Terrell Grindle, Lorenzo Mathieu, III, Trininty Martin and Ahmad Holloway, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends; Pastor, Officers and members of Pilgrim Progress and First Shiloh Missionary Baptist and all other surrounding churches are invited to attend the funeral. A Homegoing Celebration honoring Mr. Grinel will be held at Pilgrim Progress Missionary Baptist Church, 3600 Loyola Avenue on Saturday, May 27, 2107 at 10 AM, Pastor Roy H. Williams, Officiating. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery, 4000 Norman Mayer Avenue, New Orleans, LA. Visitation 9 AM IN THE CHURCH.
