A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mrs. Louise Barrett Perkins, was born in Williston, South Carolina on November 13, 1925. On June 20, 2017, she went from labor to reward at Gastonia Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Louise, the eldest child of the late Cleveland and Beulah Minor Barrett was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, the late Mr. Benjamin S. Perkins and five siblings, Edna, George, Cleveland, Rogers, and Tom Barrett.

During her teenage years, Louise began her professional training at The Jackson School of Cosmetology in Charleston, SC, after which she successfully worked as a reputable, licensed cosmetologist. For over 60 years, Mrs. Perkins was the sole owner and operator of Perkins Beauty Shop. She was a member of the North Carolina Association of Beauticians, LaRosa Chapter No. 28. Until her health declined, she maintained an active cosmetology license and enjoyed attending seminars and workshops to keep abreast of current trends in what she referred to as “beauty culture.”

Following a cosmetology apprenticeship in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Mrs. Perkins relocated to Gastonia, North Carolina, where she became a member of Friendship Baptist Church (now Friendship Christian Church). She faithfully served as a member of the Missionary Circle, The Golden Age Circle, Trustees’ Wives, the Adult Sunday School Class, and the Greeters’ Ministry at Friendship. In recent years, she became a member of First Congregational United Methodist Church of Christ, in Kings Mountain, North Carolina, serving as an active member of the Women’s Ministry.

The legacy of Mrs. Perkins will be forever etched in the hearts of her family whom she leaves behind. Her four children, Warren Perkins (Cheryl), Brenda Ballard (Daryl), Yvonne Perkins, Joycelyn Jamison (Michael), a sister, Mrs. Callie Bush, of Hollis, New York, as well as her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who will miss her dearly.

Please accept my sincere regrets for the loss of your love one. Death is so hard to deal with. The bible helps us to see that God will one day do away with pain and death. (Revelation 21:4) My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Yvonne and Family, life brings tears, smiles, and memories. The tears dry, the smiles fade but the memories of your mother will live on forever. May it help in some way to know that friends share in your sorrow.

I truly feel for your loss. This is such a difficult time. There isn't much that can soothe your pain, but you may find some comfort in the words of Psalms 9:9 which reads: "Jehovah will become a secure refuge for the oppressed, A secure refuge in times of distress." Yes, our Loving God can help if we allow him to. He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth, when it is restored to a Paradise (Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:9-11,29). No, not just a dream, but for a certainty he will do it, for Isaiah 55:11 shows us that everything he says, he accomplishes without fail. Find out more about this resurrection online at JW.ORG
