Will Norman "Papa" Spooner, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017 at the age of 97. He was born on January 9, 1920, to Addie Abrhamson Spooner and Charles Johnson, in Arbroth, Louisiana. At the young age of 17 he started his career as a Merchant Marine that lasted more than 45 years when he took a job with the United Fruit Steamship Company that made frequent runs to South America and other ports around the world many times over. His career was briefly interrupted when he joined the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid reader and a true history enthusiast. He is preceded by his parents by his parents, his siblings Crawford E. Spooner, Gladys Spooner-Adams and Catherine Spooner-Despenza; His wife Rita Agnes Spooner and sons, William Anthony Christopher (Ursula) and Paul Vincent Spooner (Joy). He is survived by two sons Norman "Jerry" Spooner (Trina) and Charles Michael Spooner (Gertrude), loving nieces and nephews, Crawford Spooner, Jr. (Lynn), Sandra Monroe, Claudia Robin, Michael Robin, Kenneth Robin, Joleen Robin, Vickie Despenza-Carrier, Tony Despenza, Vanessa Despenza-Buggage and Herbert R. Richardson. Grandchildren Kiara Sumrall-Spooner (Jeffrey),Charles Spooner, II, Mark Spooner, Rochelle Spooner, Paula Spooner (Traqus), Paul Vincent Spooner, Jr.,Chanelle Spooner, LeChaundra Spooner and Kirk Spooner and a host of great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Raymond/ St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2916 Paris Avenue on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:00 AM. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation at 9:00 AM in the church.
