Rose Mary Husband-Hunter
August 28, 1960~August 27, 2017

Was born August 28, 1960, in New Orleans, LA, to the union of the late Harry Husband, Sr. and Cornelius Harris-Husband. Realizing at an early age that she needed a Savior in this dark and evil world, Rose accepted Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of her life and was baptized at Strangers’ Home Baptist Church by Rev. Robertson. For many years, she was a member of the Pentecostal Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lionel Davis. After the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, she and her family relocated to Richmond, Texas where she united with Friendship Baptist Church of Sugarland, TX under the leadership of Rev. Amos Jones. Rose received her educational foundation and excelled in her studies in the Orleans Parish Public School System, attending James Derham Jr. High and Booker T. Washington Senior High School-until the tenth grade. Rose was quite upset to learn that her parents` plans after their retirement were to move the family to Foxworth, Mississippi. Reluctantly, she spent her junior and senior years of high school adjusting to the move. Despite the move adjustment, along with being diagnosed with Rheumatic fever at a young age, it didn’t damper her spirit.

Her Faith and trust in her savior Jesus Christ turned many stumbling blocks into stepping stones. After graduating among the “top” in her 1980 Class from West Marion High School in Columbia, MS. Rose returned to New Orleans and attended Dillard University. Again, she graduated with Honors in the Class of 1984, receiving a degree in Accounting.

“Pookie”, as she was loving known to some, and “Nanny Rose” to others, was united in holy matrimony on May 25, 1985, to the love of his life, Lance Hunter. They were the loving and proud parents of four handsome sons, raising them in the fear and admiration of Almighty God and encouraging them in their undertakings. Her pride and joy were her eleven grandchildren-she loved them immeasurably.  Pookie and her siblings were a close-knit family.  When they got together, they displayed much love and respect for each other. Her employment career enables her to work in various roles, namely as, an Investment Analyst with Howard, Weil, Labouisse & Friedrichs Security Investment Co.; an Eligibility Worker with Marion County Department of Human Services; a Math Teacher with the New Orleans Public School System; and a victim Advocate with Orleans Parish Municipal Court. Nanny Rose’s love for mankind surpassed her immediate family as she was a kind and compassionate person who stood boldly on her faith, while showing love and compassion to everyone she met. She would say, “I love you all the way to Jesus and back” and meant it wholeheartedly. Family and friends alike will miss that “first” birthday call from Rose; she had an awesome gift of remembering everyone’s birthday. Like her mama Neal, Pookie was an excellent cook and was most admired for her delightful hospitality.  She was loved by many and will long be long remembered for her loving smile and pleasing personality.

On Sunday, August 27, 2017-just one day before her 57th birthday- by the Providential Hand of Almighty God, the Angel of Mercy was dispatched to Rose’s bedside at Methodist Sugarland Hospital, Sugarland, Texas- as her husband stood by- with instructions to release His Child of her aches, pain and suffering. She heard the voice of Jesus saying, “the battle has been fought, the victory has been won, enter into thy Master’s joy,” and thus, she victoriously, yet humbly, stepped aboard the Chariot of Eternal Life enroute to her mansions that God has prepared for his children. Left to treasure her legacy, is her devoted husband, Lance G. Hunter, Sr.; compassionated sons and their spouses: Dr. Adarryl(Jonyeka) Hunter, Yo-Hance(Tianna) hunter, lance, II and Langston Hunter; loving grandchildren: Bobbie, Adariel, Tommie, Frankie, Ethan, Unique, Yo’Hand II andBenjamin Hunter, Kristianna and Kennedi Davis, and Autumn Sandifer; supportive siblings: Gleander (Travis) Taylor, Carolyn (Wendell) Echols, Robert (Mary), Michael(Dedrea), Rev.
