Mr. Tyrone Thomas passed away on September 22, 2017 at McLeod Regional Medical Center after a extended illness. Services will be held 1:00pm Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at St. Stephens United Methodist Church with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery. A wake will be held from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Elder Kevin Thomas Memorial Chapel of House of Thomas Funeral Home. Friends may call at the home 1445 Wix Road, Dillon.

Tyrone Leon Thomas, better known as “Crook” and “T” was born to the late Clarence Leon Thomas Sr. and Lou Belle Donaldson Thomas on June 25, 1940 in Dillon County, South Carolina.  He peacefully departed this earthly life on Friday, September 22, 2017 at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina on his mother’s birthday.

Tyrone attended Gordon High School in Dillon, South Carolina and was in the class of 1958.  After high school he moved to Brooklyn, New York.  Tyrone married his sweetheart Georgie Williams on September 17, 1959 and returned to Dillon in 1963.  Three children were born to this union.

As a youngster, Tyrone was baptized at St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Dillon, South Carolina where he also met his wife, Georgie and became a member due to his aunt, Theo M. Thomas, who served as the choir director at the time.  He was a member of the United Methodist Men, the Male Choir and the Ushers’ Board.

Tyrone worked in his father’s barbershop on Hampton Street after returning to Dillon from New York.  He then fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming an independent truck driver for over forty-five years.  Over that time, Tyrone traveled over forty-eight states and logged several thousand miles.  He was known as Bojangles on the CB Radio.   One of Tyrone’s favorite pastimes was listening to music, especially Motown hits, jazz and the blues.  He would often times speak about his missed opportunity to become a member of The Temptations from his days in New York, singing along with Jessie Lee Crawford’s band and David Ruffin.

Preceding Tyrone in death: his beloved son: Elder Kevin Tyrone Thomas on March 10, 2016 and a grandson: Antoine Thomas in May 23, 1978.

Tyrone leaves cherished memories ~ his loving and devoted wife: Georgie Thomas of the home; daughter: BJ Jackie Thomas of Dillon, SC; sons: Leon Reggie Thomas of Chapel Hill, NC and Vincent (Linda) Ackerman of Summerville, SC; brother: Clarence L. (Ella) Thomas Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; sister: Serena C. Thomas of Savannah, GA; Tyrone was affectionately known as “PaPa” and will be sorely missed by his grandchildren: Khaddafy Thomas, Khalia Thomas, Rojshawn Barrett, Sade Ackerman, Kevin Justin Thomas Jr., Onassis Thomas, Cherish Washington, Keiliana Ackerman as well as his great grandchildren: Takiyah Myers, Iyannah Thomas, Kendall Thomas and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

To The Grieving Family of Mr. Tyrone Thomas...... A message of Solace at The Time of Your Lost of a Loved One………… JESUS’ ROLE IN COMFORTING ALL WHO MOURN God intended that Jesus have a key role in providing comfort. Among other tasks that God assigned him, Jesus was “to bind up the brokenhearted” and “comfort all who mourn.” (Isaiah 61:1, 2) As foretold, Jesus took a special interest in people who were “toiling and loaded down.”—Matthew 11:28-30. Today, the Son of God is not present on earth to comfort us personally. But his Father, Jehovah, “the God of all comfort,” continues to help those in need. (2 Corinthians 1:3) Consider four principal means that God uses to comfort people. • The Bible. “All the things that were written beforehand were written for our instruction, so that through our endurance and through the comfort from the Scriptures we might have hope.”—Romans 15:4. • God’s Holy Spirit. Not long after Jesus’ death, the whole Christian congregation entered into a period of peace. Why? “It walked in the fear of Jehovah and in the comfort of the holy spirit.” (Acts 9:31) The holy spirit, God’s active force, is very powerful. God can use it to comfort anyone in any circumstance. • Prayer. “Do not be anxious over anything,” the Bible advises us. Rather, it says, “let your petitions be made known to God; and the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your mental powers.”—Philippians 4:6, 7. • Fellow Christians can provide a comforting ‘safety net’ of true friends. The apostle Paul described his companions as “a source of great comfort” in times of “distress and tribulation.”—Colossians 4:11; 1 Thessalonians 3:7. It is my sincere hope that these words/this knowledge helps to sustain you, your family during your Bereavement…

To the Thomas family as the days have passed since your loved has died,I hope you have found peace and comfort. Please reflect on the scripture at Isaiah 25:8 where Jehovah God gives us the hope of a time when "he will swallow up death and he will wipe away tears." Also Revalation 21:3,4 will give you comfort.
    ~ Mary Thomas   Dillon, SC
