Columbus, GA- Harold A. Smith 93, of Columbus, Georgia passed Friday, November 24, 2017 at Orchard View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Columbus, GA. Funeral services will be 11:00AM Thursday, December 7, 2017 in the Chapel at Hill-Watson-People's Funeral Service LLC, 1605 3rd Avenue, Columbus with Chaplain Muriel Pitts officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Ft Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft Mitchell, AL. Visitation will be from 10:00AM until the funeral hour Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith was born May 24, 1924 in Highpoint, North Carolina to the union of the late Harvey and Annie Smith. He was a United States Army Veteran with the rank of Staff Sergeant, a member of the elite Red Ball Express, a faithful member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church, a graduate of Morehouse College and retired from the United States Postal Service. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife and mother of his children, Gladys Paschal Smith, his late wife Mae Shipp Smith and his son, Ronald Baxter Smith. He leaves to cherish his memories his sons, William Jenkins, Atlanta, GA and Gregory Smith, Boca Raton, FL; daughter, Wanda Smith, Atlanta, GA; daughters-in-law, Jerri Lynn DeVard, Boca Raton, FL and Phyllis Smith, Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Ronald Smith, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Kevin Smith, Hampton, VA, Kandace Smith, Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Brooke DaVard Ozaydinli, New York, NY and Alexander DeVard Smith, New York, NY; In lieu of flowers the family request a contribution be made to Columbus Hospice, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA.

    It grieves us to hear about your loss. May you find strength and comfort from the words of Psalms 34:18. It reads: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." Our loving God is there for us if we ask for his help (1 John 5:14). He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
