Mrs. Mary Frances Bryant, 79

Mary Frances Bryant, affectionately known as “Mae Frances” and “Mrs. Mary”, the daughter of the late Woodrow Thomas and Annie Lee Gray, was born on November 19, 1938 in Madison, FL. She departed this life for eternal rest on January 11, 2018.

Mary received her education from the Brooks Co. School system. She was a faithful member of Sweetfield Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as a deaconess and a choir member until her health began to fail. She was also well-known for her family’s gospel singing group, The Bryant Singers. Mary was a faithful, loving and supportive wife for forty years, an amazing mother, and a joy to all who came in contact with her. She was truly the “Queen of our hearts.”

Mary was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Cleveland Eligha Bryant; son, Johnny L. Johnson; granddaughter, Veonca N. Bryant; step-father, Alfred V. Gray; father-in-law, James Bryant Sr.; mother-in-law, Rosa Lee Bryant; and brother-in-law, James Bryant Jr.

Left to cherish her sweet memories are her two sons, George A. Thomas (Julia) and Woodrow Johnson, Valdosta, GA; four daughters, Sherry L. Davis (Willie), Omaha, NE, Sarah D. Webb (Antonio), Valdosta, GA, Wanda L. Brown, Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Chiquita R. Bryant, Valdosta, GA; thirteen grandchildren, one special grandson, Damian R. Bryant, Valdosta, GA, and ten great grand-children; four sisters, Mary Neal, St.  Augustine, FL, Forrestine Collins and Jesse Pickney, West Palm Beach, FL, Betty Martin, Quitman, GA; three brothers, Alfred Gray, Quitman, GA, Gerald Gray, Valdosta, GA, Charles Gray, Riviera Beach, FL; one brother-in-law, Thomas Bryant, Quitman, GA; three sisters-in-law, Delores Gray, Geraldine Matthews and Mable Coleman; a host of caring family, and friends. Special thanks to U.S. Renal Care staff and physicians, Golden Isle EMS transport staff, Dr. Richard Rickman, Sherlene Davis, Brittany Travis, and Tammy Seymour.

Funeral services were Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Crossing Jordan Baptist Missionary Church in Valdosta with Pastor Ronnie Mathis officiating. Burial followed in the Sweetfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Quitman. Condolences may be made by visiting Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home, Quitman was in charge of the arrangements.

    Woodrow, we're so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. May you find strength and comfort from the words of Psalms 34:18. It reads: “Jehovah is close to the brokenhearted; He saves those who are crushed in spirit." Our loving God is there for us if we ask for his help (1 John 5:14). He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection RIGHT HERE ON EARTH when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
