REVEREND ERCELLE HOLMES, daughter of the late George W. Holmes and Lena Mae Hutcheson Holmes was born in Mecklenburg County, VA on June 18, 1959 and entered into eternal rest on February 22, 2018 in Henrico Doctors’ Hospital-Parham Road, Richmond, VA.  A brother and a niece preceded her in death.

At an early age she was baptized and joined North View Baptist Church.  In her younger years she served as Secretary of the Sunday school and sang in the Junior Choir.

Ercelle was a 1977 graduate of Park View Senior High School.  She later attended Shaw University, Raleigh, NC and Saint Paul’s College, Lawrenceville, VA where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Management.
In acknowledgement of her calling from the Lord, she matriculated to the School of Theology at Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA where she obtained her Master of Divinity Degree in Theology.

Reverend Holmes was licensed to preach the gospel in March 1998 and was ordained in November 2000 at North View Baptist Church under the pastorship of Dr. A.A. Brown.  She has been a member of North View Baptist Church since her childhood and was an Associate Minister there.

Reverend Holmes served as a Volunteer Chaplain at the Chippenham Medical Center and Ruxton Nursing Home, Richmond, VA.  She was also involved in the following ministries- Nursing Home Ministries, Youth Mentoring Ministry, Jail, and Prison Ministry, Out-Reached Ministry, and Hospital Chaplain work.

Reverend Holmes loved serving the Lord, singing, preaching, and teaching the gospel.  She loved witnessing to lost souls about Jesus!  That was her passion working in the kingdom of God, helping whomever she could help and doing whatever God puts on her heart to do.

Reverend Holmes also had a gift of writing poetry.  She published one book of poetry, entitled “Resting in God’s Presence.”

Reverend Holmes was a lovable person with a quiet nature.  She loved spending time with her family and she loved serving the Lord.  Her favorite quote was “God Is Able.”
