Mother Dorothy W. Rhyant

Mother Dorothy Williams Rhyant was born on October 11, 1938 to Willis and Margaret Williams in Bainbridge, GA.  She was the oldest child of thirteen children. “Dot”, as many people called her, was a long time resident of Fort Pierce, Florida, after coming from Georgia in the spring of 1945.  She received her basic education in the St. Lucie County Public School System.

Dorothy became the wife of  Elder Ezekiel Rhyant, Sr., a union which lasted 64 years. Their union produced two children, Pastor Ezekiel Rhyant, Jr. and Dorothy Rhyant-Wilson.  Mother Rhyant worked for Lawnwood Regional Medical Center for 33 years, before  illness forced her to retire.  After retirement she turned her full attention to her church to be a servant for the Lord. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching her soap operas and Jeopardy, and keeping herself busy around the house.

Dorothy accepted God’s calling to her life in February 1953.  Her life was a testament of her faith.  She was a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus for 43 years, under the leadership of  the late Bishop Joe T. Wimes, Sr., and later under the leadership of her son, Pastor Ezekiel Rhyant, Jr. She served as a Mother of the church, Secretary of both the Sunday School and the Missionary Departments, and as an Usher.  Even during illness, she remained faithful to  her work commitment  at church.  On her good days, she refused the help of her family, and gave in only when her health  issues would no  longer permit her to perform services.

One of Mother’s favorite scriptures was Amos 4:12: “Prepare to meet your God.” Some of her favorite quotes were ”I’m going to do like the late Archie Brown, and leave it in the hands of the Lord.” and “DO JESUS!”   She loved to sing, “Word Brought Me Here”, because she knew it was God’s word that brought her to church.   She was a symbol of a determined, loving, powerful, and faithful  woman of God .

On Tuesday, February 20, 2018, at Lawnwood Regonal Medical Center and Heart Institute, Mother Dorothy Rhyant transitioned from this life to be with the Lord.    She was preceded in her home going by her parents, Willie and Margaret  Williams; husband, Elder Ezekiel Rhyant, Sr.; two sisters, Margaret Ree Williams and Priscilla Poole; and five brothers, Willie Williams, Harry Williams, Johnny Williams, Ruel Pole, and Eddie Poole, Jr.

Left to cherish her precious memories are: her son, Pastor Ezekiel (Wendy) Rhyant, Jr. and daughter, Dorothy Rhyant (Kevin) Wilson, both of Fort Pierce, FL; brother, Deacon Shellie Williams of Fort Pierce, FL; sisters, Ida (Hayward) Lee and Joyce Lark, both of Fort Pierce, FL, and Patricia (Larry) Hooper of Havana, FL,; granddaughters, Ja’lesia Simmons, Lindsey Martin, and Br’niya Young, all of Fort Pierce, FL,  and Mercedes Johnson of West Palm Beach, FL;  grandsons, James Lance and Jerrod Griffin; 21 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Rev.
