John R. Rain, 84, of Yew Place, Harrisburg, transitioned into eternal life on Friday, February 23, 2018 at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born in Camden, TX, son of the late Jesse and Lois (King) Rain, a Veteran of the U. S. Air Force, retired from the City of Harrisburg, a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, where he was known as the "Sweet Potato Man", a member of Chosen Friends Lodge #43 F & AM and in his leisure, enjoyedfishing and going to the gym.

John was the widower of Yvonne S. Rain and in addition to her and his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Audrey Lynn and his son, John Russell. He leaves to celebrate his life, his daughters, Darlene Offer of Tomball, TX; Tamie K., Sheryl, Ramona and Jonette Rain, all of Harrisburg; his sisters, Audria Rain Huckaby of Houston, TX and Anita Lynn Barnes of Harrisburg; his brother, Roy Rain of Houston, TX; his six grandchildren; his five great grands; his long-time companion, Audrey Fuller and a host of other realtives and friends.

His life will be celebrated beginning on Thursday, March 1 in the Chapel of Major H. Winfield Funeral Home, Steelton, with viewing 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. followed by Masonic Services at 7:00 p.m. and Funeral Services on Friday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary of his Church at Capital and Herr Streets, Harrisburg, with viewing 9:00 until 10:00 a.m. and burial in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
