Mrs. Mary Martin, 95, died Monday, March 5, 2018. Funeral services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2018 at Springfield Baptist Church in Eden.

Mary, daughter of the late George and Doshia King was born in Wheeling, VA on August 10, 1922.  She took flight and made her farewell and peaceful journey to heaven on March 5, 2018 at Hospice of Rockingham County in Wentworth, NC. Mary was a graduate of Douglass High School and an employee of Fieldcrest Rug Mill, a cafeteria worker for Burton Grove School and a CNA worker for Council on Aging.  She was a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church, where she served on the usher board and song in the choir. She was loving, devoted Mother, an adoring caring grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend.  Singing and helping others were her passion.  Mary had a heart of gold always eager to help someone, to know her was to love her.  She will be truly missed by all who knew her. She was also preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two children and one brother.  Her loving memories will live on in the hearts of those who loved her: two sons; Virgil Martin (Olytha), Haverton Maryland and Thomas Martin of Eden, NC, four grandchildren; Andrea Martin (Rena) and Tonya Martin of Maryland, Corey Swann and Valerie Fortham (Jamar) of Atlanta, seven great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

    The passing of your beloved Mary is a daunting experience for your family. However, the Bible offers Mary the hope of a resurrection. Since it was never God’s original purpose for anyone to die but live for ever. Our Heavenly Father arranged for his purpose for us to live when a person dies. He sent his son Jesus who gave his life so all would have the hope of a resurrection. Acts 24:15 assures us of this it states, “there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous” and at this time God will remember every detail about Mary and bring her back. So during this time of sorrow pray to the god of all comfort, Jehovah, he will stregthen and sustain you. (for more info go to
