Mrs. Lessie C. Simmons of Walnut Cove, died March 19, 2018. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at St. Mary’s United Methodist Church in Walnut Cove. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church.

On Monday evening at 6:01 p.m., God decided that He needed a fresh flower from His flower garden her on earth.  So, He sent His angels to pick the most beautiful flower on earth.  Our beautiful mother, Lessie Carter Simmons.  Lessie was born in Patrick County, VA on January 14, 1939 to the late Bessie Mae Carter.  She departed her earthly home for her heavenly home on Monday, March 19, 2018 surrounded by her children and loved ones.  Her death has left us with heavy hearts and an emptiness that can never be filled, but her memories will forever live on in our hearts.  Lessie as we lovingly called her (Ma) fought a good fight; she has finished her race, for the race is not given to the swift or the strong, but to the one who endures to the end.  She has earned her prize and her suffering is finally over.  Lessie was a very loving and caring mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She was a wonderful mother and a great friend to so many, she loved people and they loved her.  To know her was to love her. Lessie attended Patrick County School and was a stay at home Mother for many years, raising her six children on her own with the help of her mother and sister, Day.  She was a former employee at Moyer’s Rest Home for many years.  She was a member of St. Mary’s United Methodist Church for many years, a devoted member until her health began to fail her.  She faithfully attended Sunday School, always being on time.  She was member of the UMW, served on the Usher Board, a member of the Pastor’s Parrish Relations Committee, as well a member of the Trustee Board.  Lessie was preceded in death by three brothers; Saunders, James and Leonard Carter, five sisters; Myrtle Carter, Essie Simmons, Doris Carter, Geraldine Johnson and Annie Mae Carter. She leaves to cherish her memories: daughter; Patricia Gaines (Louis) of Asheboro, NC, six sons; Charles Carter of Winston Salem, NC, Danny Simmons (Juanita) of Reidsville, NC, Roger, Robert Carter, James Simmons and her adopted son, Brian Hunter of the home, 16 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, devoted nieces; April Hunter and Betty Johnson and a very devoted friend; Betty Davis.

Continued prayers for everyone. God looked down on his angel and decided she was not going to suffer and he took her to a place where there is no pain. Fly and be free sweet angel and continue to watch over us all and keep us safe.

My deepest sympathies are with your family during this time of sorrow. Our Heavenly Father, Jehovah feels your pain of the lose of Lessie, his originally created us to live forever and not to pass away. He sent his son, Jesus who gave his life so that Lessie could have the hope of a resurrection. Acts 24:15 states, “there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and unrighteous” and at that time God will remember every detail about Lessie and bring her back. Therefore, pray to the god of all comfort, Jehovah and he will stregthen and sustain your family during this time of sadness. ( go to JW.org for more info)
