Mrs. Velma L. Alexander, daughter of the late Isadell C. Luckey, was born May 1, 1928 in Gaston County, North Carolina. She departed this life on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at her home. 

As a faithful member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church for many years, she has served as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, PPR Chair, Communication Chair and a faithful member of the Senior and Mass Choir. Even though her illness affected her health she never lost her love of the Lord and her church. 

She loved her family. To her grands she was called “Sweet Pie and Grandma”. She loved to cook for her family during the holiday or whenever family came to town. She occasionally helped to cater weddings and sometime directed the wedding.
She was a dedicated wife and mother. She had her first full time job outside the home working for Stanley Knitwear after all of her children were in school. She even served as PTA secretary at Springfield School for several years.  

She was preceded in death by her mother and son Carlies R. Alexander and her husband of 66 years Carlies B. Alexander.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters Jacqueline M. Alexander and Sherry A. Taylor (William) of Charlotte, NC; two sons Rev. Danny K. Alexander of Austell, Georgia and  Tyrone B. Alexander of Lake Wylie, SC ; six grandchildren, Kenyetta Guinn of Miami, Florida, Marcus Taylor, Winston Salem, NC, Captain Wesley Taylor, Raleigh, NC,  Symone Alexander, Arora, Co., Danielle Alexander, Chicago, Ill., Jonathan Alexander, Powder Springs, Georgia;  two special daughters, Staci Alexander and Gwen Alexander; Goddaughter Monica Price; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Funeral: Thursday; April 12, 2018; 1:00 p.m.; Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church-2717 Dallas Stanley Hwy, Stanley

Visitation: one hour before the service at the church

Interment: Mt. Pleasant Church Cemetery, Stanley

    Please accept my sincere regrets for your loss. I know how difficult death can be to have to deal with.Revelation 21:4 says that God will wipe every tear from our eyes and death and pain will be no more. This is especially comforting since we know this scripture has to be referring to the earth because these things don't exist in heaven.
