MR. EDWARD LEE CHAVIS, affectionately called “The Happy Fat Guy” and “Hog Jaws,” departed this life April 12, 2018, suddenly at his home, Palmer Springs, VA. He was born March 2, 1954 in Mecklenburg County, VA to the late George Douglas and Bettie Wilkerson Chavis. He was also preceded in death by his siblings- Jimmy J., Annie Bankhead, Lizzie Alexander, Malinda, Clarence and George Chavis, and Carlton Rhames. 

At an early age he was baptized and joined Roanoke Chapel United Church of Christ.  He attended the Mecklenburg County Public School and later graduated from the U.S. Job Corps. 

Edward was employed with T.E. Brown Construction Company, Eastern Shore, VA and lastly as a cement finisher with English Construction Co., South Boston, VA until he became disabled. 

In his spare time he enjoyed cooking, talking junk, riding the road, and watching those Chicago Bears. 

Edward leaves to mourn a sister- Barbara  Chavis of the home; brother- Willie (Vera) Chavis, Palmer Springs, VA; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Chavis, Palmer Springs, VA and Beatrice Chavis of California; two aunts- Ruby Hargrove, Warrenton, NC; Alice Britt, NY,NY;  foster sisters- Marjorie Moss, Manson, NC and Carolyn Green, Palmer Springs, VA; foster brothers- James (Mariah) Jones, Percell and Norris Langston all of Palmer Springs, VA; God-daughter, Marie (Dale) Thorpe, Henderson, NC; nine nieces, six nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
