Terry David Blanchard passed from this planet March 27, 2018 at 10:55am, after a brief illness and subsequent complications.  Terry was born at Fort Knox, Kentucky and attended schools in Japan, Taiwan and at several other US Army bases, before settling in Colorado Springs, Colorado and graduating from Palmar High School.  Terry served two years in the US Naval Reserve in the 60’s. He worked as a building framer before attaining a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Arts in 1973 from Colorado State University in Pueblo. Terry taught English, Wood shop and was the Coach for the girls’ soccer team at Crestone High School in Crestone Colorado. After teaching for several years, Terry went into business. He became a member of the Colorado Woodworkers Guild and gained recognition for his furniture design and craftsmanship. This led to the founding of Blanchard Doors. He handcrafted hundreds of hardwood doors which now adorn homes in the Colorado Springs and Denver area.   In retirement, he moved to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. Terry’s life was defined by a deep belief in Buddhism which he practiced daily.  He was a member of the Soka Gakkai Buddhist of Albuquerque.  Astronomy was another of his loves, leading to the “Observa-Terry”, a functioning telescope observatory that he built at his New Mexico home.  Terry wrote several collections of poetry and was published in the Sins Fronteras/Writers Without Borders of Las Cruces. He was a leading organizer and influence of the T or C poetry community. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Margaret Blanchard and survived by his sisters Gwen Colon and Kathy McCarty of Colorado Springs, Gary Blanchard of Bradenton, Florida, Steve Blanchard living in Thailand, and Roger Blanchard of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Terry was cremated in New Mexico and several celebrations of his life have been held there.

we knew Terry only through the poetry community in southern New Mexico. He was always a sweet, gentle person but with an ironic bite, and was a good poet and a dedicated organizer of the poetry scene in T or C. We'll definitely miss him.
