I have worked with Derek for the past seven years at First Citizens. Derek was always kind and could bring energy to any room. He cherished his kids greatly and was such a proud father. I recall a time when I asked him about a “smile more” magnet on the back of his truck and he reflected and said he put it there because he thought everybody should smile more. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Derek, I recently experienced the loss of a loved one also. Initially, you may find it hard to believe, wishing it wasn’t true. However, family and friends can be a great source of comfort during this time. Also, it’s comforting to know that we can be reunited with our loved ones on a paradise earth, where death will be a thing of the past. (Psalm 37:29; Revelation 1:4) Until that time, we can continue to cherish the fond memories we have of our loved ones.

I was so very sorry to hear about Derek’s passing. He was a gentle giant and always made everyone around himself feel better with his sweet smile. I worked with Derek at First Union/Wachovia and he was someone that you always wanted to be around. He was very professional and treated everyone with the utmost respect. Even though I had not seen Derek in several years, I never forgot him and his kind heart and soul. I know that heaven now has one special angel named Derek Davis.

I would like to express my deepest condolences to Derek's family and all of his loved ones. A little over a year ago Derek walked into my place of employment, I greeted him and he responded and smiled in such a bright way that it changed my day and was never forgotten. The following month I had a job interview with First Citizens Bank, to my surprise one of the people that was interviewing me was Derek. Subsequently, he hired me and I was fortunate to work with him over the past year. He believed in me, cheered me on & made me feel very valued! I am endlessly thankful that our paths crossed those two times, I will never forget the immeasurable positive impact that Derek made in my life.
