Alta Symantha “Sam” Baker transitioned from this life on April 29, 2018. Her funeral will be held 1:00PM on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Holmes Grove United Methodist Church, 1100 Alamance Church Road, Greensboro, NC. Visitation will start 30min prior to the service at the church.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

She was born June 15, 1946 to the late Arnell and Falcona Wright in Greensboro, NC. Symantha completed her years of education in Greensboro City Schools.  Later in life, she continued her education and earned an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education from Guilford Technical Community College.  Symantha gained employment with Elastic Fabrics of America (Superior Knits). She was a hard worker who held the belief that if others could achieve goals and advance at work, so could she.  With this belief she attained several accomplishments, promotions and awards. Symantha retired, as a supervisor, from Elastic Fabrics of America after over 25 years of service.

She was a dedicated member of Holmes Grove United Methodist Church who lived the scripture, “Whatsoever your hands find to do, do it with all your might” -Ecclesiastes 9:10. She was a true missionary at heart who gave tirelessly in the community to anyone she knew had a need. She had a special place in her heart for both the elderly and the young.

Symantha was preceded in death by her husband, business partner and friend, William H. Baker, Jr; two brothers, Brockton B. Williamson and A. D. Wright; and two sisters, Harrietta W. Goins and Waldena R. Wright.

She is survived by daughters, Maria Baker Belin (RaShaun) and Sandra Baker; step-daughter, Kelley Hill: 4 grandchildren, Mekierra, Jakai, Syvonne and Samyah; 3 great-grandchildren, Nailah, Jy’ier, and Landen; 1 sister, Monteniss Mccoy; 1 brother, Clayborn Wright; sister-in-law, Catherine Wright, brothers-in-law, Albert (Norma), James, Glenn (Claudette), Julius, Carl, Canova, Leon and Richard; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Woodard Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
