On April 27, 2018 a few hours short of his 92nd birthday, God called one of his strongest and most faithful angels, Samuel Alphine Hunter home to rest. Dr. Samuel Alphine Hunter was born April 28, 1926 in St. Petersburg, Florida to Jerry Nathaniel and Viola Adel Wright Hunter. Shortly after, the family moved to Tallahassee where he continued to grow and mature. He was an inquisitive young man with a thirst for knowledge and a penchant for creative invention.

Dr. Hunter resided in Tallahassee’s Springfield Community and attended the public Schools of Leon County. Little did he know that, across town at the Florida Agriculture and Mechanical College (FAMC) Developmental Research School, his mother was teaching a pretty little third grader named Audrey Bernice Wilson, who in later years would become his wife. Dr. Hunter graduated from the historic Lincoln High School where he was a star basketball player. He enrolled at Florida A&M College but interrupted his studies when drafted into the United States Army, where he served for two years. Upon his discharge, Samuel A. Hunter returned to Tallahassee, completed his studies and graduated with a B. S. degree in Health and Physical Education from Florida A&M College. He later earned an M.A in Supervision and Administration from FAMU and an Ed. D in Educational Administration from Nova University.

Dr. Hunter was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Nathaniel Hunter and Viola Adel Wright Hunter, a brother Jerry Nathaniel Hunter II and his wife Amanda, and a sister Henri Veta Kelly.

Hunter (Gilda) of Orangeburg, South Carolina, Vittoro D. Hunter (Jeannie) of Houston, Texas and daughter Jolillian A. Hunter. Dear Representative Hunter, I was saddened to learn of the passing of your father-in-law, Dr. Samuel Hunter. From reading his obituary, it is obvious that he lived a full, fruitful and serving life. Spending as many years as an Educator as he did, I can only imagine the thousand of lives he touched. Jesus Christ has called us to servanthood, he answered the call. Gilda, my prayers go out to your husband, you and the entire Hunter family. May God bless his memory. We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11). Can you see yourself welcoming back to life your loved ones? What a joy it will bring all of us. You can go online to JW.ORG and find out more about this resurrection.
