Deacon Charles L. James, 82

Deacon Charles Lee James, Sr. was born on June 9, 1935 to the late Pearlie M. Mattox and DaAndre Kennedy in Predigest Ville, South Carolina. There, he attended local schools. Relocating to Atkinson County where he met his loving and devoted wife of 59 years, the late Mother Burnell Parker James.  He retired from PCA Packaging in 2000.  He was chairman deacon of Zion Temple Church of God In Unity of Quitman. 

He leaves to cherish his memories; his children, Irene Washington, Shirley James Moore (Frank), Valdosta, GA, Wanda Copeland, College Park, GA, Denise Young (Rondle), Rex, GA, Loretta Jenkins, Jonesboro, GA, Don James (Kathy), Valdosta, GA, Michael James (Lajanda), Adel, GA, Tracy Ware (Roderick), McDonough, GA, Coretta James Jackson, Valdosta, GA, Linda Carr (John), Jacksonville, FL; very special son, Tommy Goins, Adel, GA; sister,  Eliza Burch Rutledge (Claude), Gainesville, FL; two sisters-in-law, Myrdes Sallet, Magalene Brown (Samuel); two brothers-in-law, Clarence Wells, Johnny Parker; 22 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren; two special friends, Rick Holcombe (Kim) and Gregory (Bo Legs) Wiseman; very special god daughter, Maria Moore and a host of relatives, god children and friends.  

Funeral services were Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of God Tabernacle in Quitman with Pastor Tracy Ware officiating.  Burial followed in the North End Cemetery in Quitman.  Condolences may be made by visiting  Stevens-McGhee Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
