DEACON WOODROW WILSON WILLIAMS, son of the late Clarence Wilson and Allie Beatrice Williams, was born July 10, 1928 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life suddenly, May 19, 2018 at VCU-Community Memorial Hospital, South Hill, VA.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Lone Oak Baptist Church, Chase City, VA.  He was a member of the Sunday school, Missionary and Northside Union.

On December 23, 1950 Woodrow married Elzena Johnson under the pastorship of late Rev. Theodore Wood and to this union a son, Theodore Wilson Williams, was born and preceded him in death on May 8, 2010.

Woodrow served in the U.S. Army from September 25, 1951 until September 2, 1953, receiving an Honorable Discharge.

In 1954 he moved to Baltimore, MD and later joined the Concord Baptist Church.  Woodrow was a member of the Choir, Trustee Board for 16 years, and vice-chairman for 7 years.

Woodrow was employed by Sparrow Point Still Mill, Baltimore, MD for 30 years until his retirement in 1985.

In 1986 he reaffirmed his membership with Lone Oak Baptist Church.  Deacon Williams was President and Treasurer of the Senior Choir, member of The Men’s Chorus, Trustee Board, Northside Union, Pastor’s Aide, Missionary, Bible Study, and Treasurer of the Building Fund.

Deacon Williams’ community activities included being a member of AARP #4014, South Hill, VA; Life member of VFW #7166; Veteran of the U.S. Army; Mecklenburg County Triad, and volunteer for Lake Country Area Agency for 3years.

 

Deacon Williams leaves to mourn his devoted wife- Elzena Johnson Williams of the home; one brother- Cleveland Williams, Washington, DC;   daughter-in-law, Robbynne Archia, Phoenix, AZ;  one sister-in-law, Marie A. (Waverly) Crosson, Marietta, GA; three brothers-in-law, Junius (Leona) Johnson and Leon Johnson of Chase City, VA and John Calvin (Erma) Johnson, East Orange, NJ; six god-children- Catherine Watson, Baltimore, MD; Teresa Johnson, New Castle, DE; Deidra Faulker, NC; Tevonna Johnson-Trusty, Baltimore, MD; Felicia Butler, Baltimore, MD; and Adrianna Hargrove, Chase City, VA, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
