Warren John Hayes, 72, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2018 at his home in Elephant Butte, New Mexico with his loving wife Beth (aka Betsy) at his side.

Warren was born in 1945 in a little town in southwestern Minnesota. He graduated high school in 1963. After briefly attending college and working for a local company, Warren enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served from 1965 to 1968, including 13 months in Vietnam.

Upon returning to Minnesota the summer of 1969, he met his future wife, Betsy. They were married in July 1973. After 32 ½  years of driving city bus for Metro Transit Commission in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, he took early retirement and he and Betsy moved to their current residence in Elephant Butte. Their home sits along the 6th fairway of the Sierra del Rio (SdR) Golf Course.

Warren was a sports fanatic and well versed in a vast variety of events. His eyes would just light up when engaged in a conversation on any sport. He loved life and especially his part-time job mowing grass at SdR, where he developed strong bonds with his co-workers. He was a good friend to all. When diagnosed with a terminal illness in October 2017, he said not being able to work was harder on him than the actual diagnosis.

Warren was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Opal Hayes and one brother, Jerome Hayes. He is survived by his adoring wife, Beth (Bose) Hayes; brother, Stephen (Carol) Hayes of Comfrey, MN; sister, Teresa (Alan) Pudenz of Jeffers, MN; sister-in-law, Alice Hayes of Mountain Lake, MN; sister, Cecelia (Lynn) Krueger of Hudson, WI; as well as many special nieces and nephews.

Per Warrens wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. There will be an Open House “Party” in his honor on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at SdR from 1:00-3:00 P.M. He was a very kind, caring and generous man. We will all dearly miss him.

We deeply feel for what you and the family are going through. At times, there isn't much that can soothe the pain this grief brings, but you may find some comfort in the words of Psalms 9:9 which reads: "Jehovah will become a secure refuge for the oppressed, A secure refuge in times of distress." Yes, our Loving God can help if we allow him to (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth, when it is restored to a Paradise (Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:9-11,29). No, not just a dream, but for a certainty he will do it, for Isaiah 55:11 shows us that everything he says, he accomplishes without fail. You can find out more online at JW.ORG

Betsy- My thoughts are with you as you go through the emotions of losing your husband, solemate... and yes, partner in mischief. My memories of Warren and you was always as a couple and how to have fun! Your old HCC gang, The Hayes, The Seewald’s, The Kelly’s, The O’connor’s, The Mogen, The Bettis’s, Paul & Gloria and of course Brad! Wow what a group.. You both brought me in at a young age and showed me how to have fun, BUT showed me how to be a couple. I am sadden by the news. You will always miss Warren, but we will never forget the kind wonderful man you enjoyed for many many years. God Bless AND I will have a PBR or 2 in honor!

Betsy, I am very saddened by the news of Warren's passing. I feel for you and wish you my best thoughts and condolences. I have many great memories of good times with Warren and also you. Warren did love golf and all sports. He was a walking sports encyclopedia. You and Warren both knew how to have fun and there was never a dull moment when Warren was around. Many, Many great memories from Hastings C.C. All I can say is remember the good times and don't let them go as there were many that I know and I am sure there are many more for you. My deepest sympathy and God Bless!

Betsy, you have my deepest sympathy in the loss of Warren, and to the Hayes family in losing Warren so closely after Jerry. I still remember as a young Comfrey basketball player, seeing Warren's ability to bring a basketball up court. Amazing! All the best in the days ahead and God Bless! Marv Grunig

I was sad to hear about the passing of your husband, brother and friend. May God bless you Betsy, as well as Warren’s sisters and brother. It’s been many years since I have had a Comfrey address, but it’s nice to realize we can reconnect and reach out to those people that we used to see and know through siblings! (My brother, Jim) My thoughts and prayers are with your family.
