This day Lord, is thy gift of grace; wherein I may discern thy face.  This glad, green earth, the blue above may tell the wonders of thy love.  So, all thy gifts of earth and seas, Lord, keep one who knows when crosses come my prayer dear Lord, “Thy will be done.”

MR. JAMES EDWARD GREGORY, known to many as “Fat Daddy,” son of the late Sam and Estelle Rolfe Gregory was born June 2, 1951 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life May 25, 2018 in VCU-Community Memorial Healthcenter, South Hill, VA.  A brother, Charlie Gregory, preceded him in death.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Union Hill RZUA Church.  He was a 1970 graduate from the Park View Senior High School.

James was employed as a construction worker, truck driver, a welder and lastly he worked for J.A. Barker Construction Co., South Hill, VA until he became ill.

James loved hunting, fishing, gardening and he cherished helping people, caring for the sick. He often opened his doors to anyone in need.  He also adored cooking on the grill and socializing with family and friends.

James leaves to mourn seven siblings- Mary Woods, Plainfield, NJ; William (Ethel) Gregory, Prince George, VA; Sam Gregory, Jackson, NJ; Ernest (Ethel) Gregory, Landover, MD; Queen Young, Capital Heights, MD; Gloria Harrison, LaCrosse, VA; Joe Gregory, Capital Heights, MD; step-children, Charles Smith, Edinburgh, VA and Geneva (Jerome) Butler, Clinton, MD; devoted cousin- Theda Bugg; faithful friend-Jennie Alexander; loving niece-Loretta, and friends- Charlie Hayes, Herman “Brain” Thompson and other cousins and friends.
