Mrs. Genevieve Hayes Leake, 66, died May 30, 2018. Funeral services will be held
1 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Eden. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church.  Burial will follow at Eden Garden Cemetery, Eden, NC

Mrs. Genevieve Hayes Leake (Mary), daughter of the late Bob Hayes and Jennie W. Hayes, was born on April 15, 1952 in Durham NC at Duke Medical Center. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband William James Leake Jr. of 37 plus years.  She was educated in Durham City School System and graduated from Hillside High System where she graduated from Hillside High School in 1970. Genevieve was very active in school and was a part of the pep and spirit club. Genevieve worked a number of years at Durham Drapery, she later started working at American Tobacco Company in Durham, NC and then later relocated to Eden, NC and continue working with the Tobacco Company where she retired after many years’ service. Genevieve’s faith in God led her to profess belief in Christ at an early age where she attended Ebenezer Baptist Church in Durham NC. There she attended Sunday school, vacation bible school and sang in the Jr. Choir and served as a Jr. Usher. Genevieve continue severing her community at TA Grady recreation center in her younger years.  Genevieve later joined and was a faithful member of Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church. Genevieve served her church as an adviser of the Jr. Usher board up until the present. She also was a part of the hospitality ministry. Genevieve was presented for her faithful attendance of The Amazing Praise Band. Genevieve also loved attending weekly bible study at Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.  She was also preceded in death by Robert Hayes, Jerry Hayes, Fredrick (Bo) Hayes, Brenda (Sula) Hayes and Rossa Hayes Avery. Carrying on her legacy of love, strength in her absence will be her son; Sherrod W. Leake, daughter; Ashley M. Leake, a host of grandkids, two sisters; Valeria Nelson, Beryl Hampton of Durham, NC, nieces, nephews, host of loving relatives and dear friends.
