Mrs. Louise Howard Durden, 86, passed away peacefully at her home Saturday, June 9, 2018.

A native of Jacksonville, she received her early education in the public schools of Duval County, graduating from Stanton Senior High School - Class of 1949.

She furthered her education at Bethune-Cookman College, graduating with a B.S. degree in business education in 1953.

Mrs. Durden was employed by Duval County Public Schools for 30 years, first as a school secretary and then as a business education teacher, retiring in 1992. She was a life-long member of Saint Stephen A.M.E. Church, and served faithfully on various ministries. She was also a member of Stanton Class of '49, Gamma Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Duval County Retired Teachers Association. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Joseph Durden. She is survived by her three daughters, Sylvia Gaddis (Dwayne), Jolita Durden, and Donna Durden-Walter (Larry); grandchildren, Jordan and Payton Walter; goddaughters; and other relatives and friends. FUNERAL SERVICES will be held SATURDAY, 11:00 a.m. at Saint Stephen A.M.E. Church, 913 W 5th Street, 32209. Family will receive friends and visitors FRIDAY, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the church. The Ivy Beyond the Wall Sorority Rites will begin Friday at 7:00 p.m. Friends are asked to assemble at the church under the direction of JAMES GRAHAM MORTUARY, INC., 3631 Moncrief Road, 904- 766-0436.
