Deaconess Lillie Ella Baskerville Arnold

Deaconess Lillie Ella Baskerville Arnold, beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friends, was call home June 12, 2018 to be with the Lord.  She was born the eighth child to the late George Willie and Agnes Shelton Hamilton Baskerville, on November 22, 1926 in South Hill, VA.  She was also preceded in death by 12 siblings- Edward, Jesse, Joseph, Walter, Peter, twin boys, John, Sarah, Lucy, Eula and Alma.

At an early age she accepted Christ, was baptized and joined Gethsemane Baptist Church.  She graduated from Mecklenburg County Training School.

In 1950 Lillie was united in holy matrimony to the late Hubert O. Arnold and moved to Norfolk, VA.  To this union eight children were born, Hubert Jr., Julia, Horace, twins- Joyce and Harlem, Janice, and twins- Hal and Joann.

Deaconess Arnold later moved to Baltimore, MD and became a faithful member of Union Temple Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. Charles H. Churn, Sr.  During this fellowship, she taught Sunday school, Daily Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir, worked in Hospitality, and served as a Deaconess.

During her lifetime, she worked with Senior Citizens and took care of one foster child, Charles Anthony Garrison.  She also worked in the school cafeteria for 27 years and retired. 

After moving back to Virginia in 2003 Lillie reaffirmed her membership with Gethsemane Baptist Church.  She also worked in the local school cafeteria and did volunteer work for some of her relatives. 

Deaconess Arnold had a wonderful life and counted all of her aches, pains and troubles as part of Christ’s suffering, “Just to behold His face.”

Deaconess Arnold leaves to cherish her memory, four children- Julia (Dudley) Moseley of the home, who gave up so much in Alaska to take care of her; Joyce (Joseph) Buchanan and Hal Arnold all of Baltimore, MD; Joann Iduma of South Hill, VA; four great-grandchildren- Lamont Arnold, Jemima Buchanan, Joseph (Chardae) Buchanan, Jr., and Drew (Dena) Arnold; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, (that was like a daughter to her)Debra Arnold of Baltimore, MD; one sister- Dorothy Williams of Baltimore, MD, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

    We're sorry to hear about your recent loss. May you find strength from the words of Philippians 4:13 which says: "For all things I have the strength through the one who gives me power." What a loving God who cares about each one of us. He didn't intend for us to grow old and die. He thus has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth when it is restored to a beautiful paradise (Psalms 37:9-11, 29; Acts 24:15; Isaiah 55;11).
