JAMES ALEX DORTCH, JR., son of the late James Alex, Sr. and Nettie Mae Feggins Dortch was born June 26, 1954 in Mecklenburg County, VA and departed this life June 11, 2018 in VCU-MCV Hospital, Richmond, VA.  He was also preceded in death by a sister, Constance Loretta Dortch.

At an early age he was baptized and joined Free Union RZUA Church, Bracey, VA.  He was a graduate of Park View Senior High School.

In 1974 James joined the U.S. Army and served for 2 years, 11 months and 21 days; receiving an Honorable Discharge on September 7, 1977.

On June 24, 1978 he married Diane Pressley and to this union two children were born.

James was employed as a Volunteer Driver for Logistic Care until his health began to fail.

James was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time with family and friends.  He will be greatly missed.

James leaves to cherish his memory are: his wife, Diane Pressley Dortch of the home; two children- Xavier D. (Andrea)Pressley, Northern Virginia and Shannell Dortch, Bracey, VA; 7 grandchildren- Ezion, Zavien, Delon, Elijah, Jaylin, Teniya, and Kayden; father and mother-in-law, Willie and Isiah Pressley, South Hill, VA; one brother- Conrad  Dortch, South, Hill, VA; 2 sisters- Lula Divers, Petersburg, VA and Theresa  Bugg, Bracey, VA; 2 brothers-in-law, Kenneth Bugg, VA Beach, VA and Isiah (Belinda) Pressley, Indianapolis, IN; 5 sisters-in-law, Yvonne Dortch,  Venice Pressley, Denise (Kenneth) Anderson, Judy Pressley and Doretha Baskerville; uncle- Wilson Dortch, Bracey, VA and aunt- Constance Dortch, NJ; devoted niece- Katrina Tisdale; 5 nephews- Keon and Donta Dortch, Kennarda Bugg, Gregg and Jason Divers; devoted friends- Joseph Alexander and James “BoJack” Wynn, South Hill, VA, and a host of cousins and other friends.

    We deeply feel for what you and the family are going through. At times, there isn't much that can soothe the pain this grief brings, but you may find some comfort in the words of Psalms 9:9 which reads: "Jehovah will become a secure refuge for the oppressed, A secure refuge in times of distress." Yes, our Loving God can help if we allow him to (1John 5:14). He also has made the SURE promise of a resurrection right here on earth, when it is restored to a Paradise (Acts 24:15; Psalms 37:9-11,29).
